When did you/others notice weight loss?

I started eating healthily and going to the gym for the first time on sept 1st and I am now 10kg. I'm trying really hard and want to continue in the countdown to Christmas but I just feel a bit down that no one seems to have noticed. I can tell a little from photos etc and in my clothes which are much looser- I just hoped by now I'd notice more and others would do too.
I'm around 5'4" and gone from 88kg to 78kg so I know I have at least another 10 to lose to get my bmi down to healthy.

So when did you start to notice?

I am now 10kg

Please say you’re down 10kg not weigh 10kg!

Should have said, really well done. That’s a great loss so far.
People who see you often don’t always notice. It’s ones who haven’t seen you in a while will spot it.

Yes sorry I just tried to edit it and it wouldn't let me. Imagine! Definitely 10kg down.

Thank you! I think I though maybe by now work colleagues would have noticed but I guess they see me every day.

People only notice how slim I am when I wear fitted clothes. I'm also 5'4" and lost a lot of weight but over a fairly long period due to a medical condition. I weigh 51 kilos now and even close friends only noticed after a good couple of stones.

Maybe work colleagues are a bit shy about bringing it up in case you’re offended. Weight is a tricky topic. I’m sure it’s noticeable

I got lots of positive comments at about 11/12kgs down but I’d been quite open about dieting so people knew it was intentional.

Thank you! To be fair I'm quite covered up at work so that's probably why. When I've lost a little more I'll get some new clothes etc which will make me feel better!

I'm happy enough with myself and how I'm doing - I know I'm trying harder than I ever have and feel much happier for it, I just noticed the other day that no one else had 😂

Usually 15kg plus for comments.

After 8months it started to come off tiny bit by tiny bit. Bit depressing, really.

After 5.5kg loss 3 people at work commented.

I’ve always worn big baggy loose clothes so when I lost my weight a drop of 4.5 Stone... going from 15.8 down to 11 stone everyone said that they couldn’t really see as my clothes hid my size.
It’s my choice of clothing and no matter what size I am I like my baggy comfortable style.
I also hid it because I looked forward to surprising everyone when I did decide to wear something more fitting and the comments were unbelievable.
May I suggest you lose another 5 kg and then wow everyone with a beautiful new outfit to show off the new you?
It will also help you to step up a notch to lose your final 5kg which will be the hardest.
Well done you! You should feel extremely proud of yourself! 💐x

I think people are scared to mention it if they don't know you've been dieting. It's such an emotive topic. I'd bet that if you said "I want to have a few treats as I've been dieting for 2 months", you'd get lots of comments on how well you look.

Not me, but a colleague lost a couple of stone over a few months but continued to wear the same clothes. Once she started to wear clothes that fitted her it was as though she had lost it overnight. She's worked really hard and looks awesome. She inspires me!

@justanaunty that’s a huge amount to lose. I expect they have noticed and just don’t like to comment (my colleagues are very blunt/frank!)

I've lost about 12kg and I've had one comment from DH and this week a friend commented as well. So no, still not really...

Ah thank you for your comments!

I think I will do just that with the new outfit etc. Christmas party can be the new aim!!

@MrsJonesAndMe I'm sure you look great and it might be some of the reasons above. Keep going I know it's tough some days Thanks

I'm not too fussed really, doing it for myself. Good luck with the rest of your journey.

Well done on the weight loss. It took a good 3 stone before anyone said anything to me. Essentially once I had stopped being obese per BMI and was about halfway through overweight.

About a stone, which was round about when I bought some new clothes. Well done on the weight loss so far!

I have lost exactly the same as you OP over the same period and same height (not got to the gym yet - so well done to you) - no one has noticed - but I feel fabulous - I am also aware that I am just now moving out of obese to over weight ..... so still fat !! I think people will only notice when I am slim!!

Report
Innishh · 18/11/2019 23:28

I also don’t want people to notice me now either as I am still a “work in progress” and don’t really need to be “assessed” as to how much I have lost and — worse — how much more I still need to lose....

justanaunty · 19/11/2019 16:23

Ah I completely get that and I'm exactly the same BMI wise so perhaps it's not as noticeable! I feel so much better and have more energy. Flying home for Xmas on dec 15th to see my family and they've not seen me since July so hopefully that will be the time!!

justanaunty - congratulations on your weight loss, I have lost 4 stone ( don't know how many kgs that is), and I usually get the same comment from most people saying "have you been ill", Bit of a downer really

I've lost just over 21lbs since September but in my job as a nurse, I wear baggy scrubs, so weight-loss isn't apparent at work. I reckon I could lose 4 stone before anyone noticed.

Worse for me was when I lost loads last time but had put almost all of it back on within the year - so my friends and relatives who only see me once a year - missed that moment when I was slim!

This the final time for me though. I have just concentrated on changing one habit every couple of weeks and once that was firmly established I went on to the next. These new habits are for life now though do not a diet.
Started with going teetotal.
Then cut out sugary snacks - replaced with apples / cheese / nuts.
Then put in 16:8
Then reduced refined carbs (pasta, bread, rice) and replaced with more healthy fats/oils and protein heavy veg (am mostly veggie). Going to SW to keep track - find some of their recipes and online info helpful - but not doing their massive portions or unlimited carbs.
Walking 5-10k steps a day. Need to get to the gym to do some weights.
