Drinking 1-2 litres of Dr Pepper a day..

Ive been drinking 1 to 2 litres of Dr Pepper a day for the past year and I can no longer pretend it hasn't been a contributing factor to weight gain Blush.

When I first got with my partner 4 years ago I was a size 12 (I felt so huge back then and now I look back in envy), 4 years and one baby later I'm now a size 18 and feel mentally and physically crap. Today is the first day in a long time I haven't had any fizzy drinks and I already have the worst headache, I'm actually really embarrassed by it.

I'm on maternity leave with a 4 month old so don't do a lot of exercise but am planning on going out for more walks with the pushchair going forward. Do you think going for a walk a day with the pushchair and stopping drinking the fizzy drinks will make me lose weight?

Obviously I know I'll need to focus on food intake next but for a starting point, has anyone lost weight from cutting out sugary drinks alone?

You will feel crap for a few days but drink plenty of water and take painkillers...
I've been doing a boot camp through fat girl getting fit - I've really enjoyed the food and have lost weight too.....
Increase your exercise and try and eat plenty of vegetables with your meals.

You will hopefully at least stop gaining weight if not start losing (but hopefully you'll lose). Have you tried dr pepper zero? Obviously it's better if you can give up altogether, but if that's too hard at least the diet version has no calories. Good luck.

You’re drinking between 750-1000calories a day that’s probably half of your daily recommended calorie consumption-good news is if you stop that and take a bit more notice overall on how you’re looking after yourself and what you’re eating then weight loss should be relatively easy for you to achieve. Try a couple of weeks tracking your consumption on my fitness pal so you can see what you’re eating and drinking. Good luck. Some very supportive weight loss threads here if you want that support.

I think for now I'm going to focus on just drinking water, I don't want to get tempted but wil definitely give Dr pepper zero a try if I start flaking.

I'd never even calculated how many calories I've been drinking and now I'm more embarrassed Blush. I definitely need to kick this habit! Thanks for all your advice Smile

I would seriously recommend cutting that down over a week - you're going to have awful withdrawal symptoms if not. You can up your water consumption first/at the same time - good luck! Smile

I bet once the withdrawal is over you'll feel SO much better!

I completely understand you - I drink ridiculous amounts of coke, and if I can't get that then I'll substitute it for another fizzy pop and I don't drink it I get really bad headaches! Hope you kick your habit soon ❤️

I'm the same with fizzy drink. In July just before the summer holidays I was a size 18ish and 12st8. I gave up fizzy, went through the withdrawal, massive headaches and I also started the fast 800 diet. I managed a few weeks without fizzy but couldn't keep it up, so I just went to the diet version. I'm doing well on the diet though. I've lost 2.5 stone. I prefer massive change and quick results tbh. I cba being on a diet for any longer than necessary!

I had a coke addiction (drink not the white stuff) but realised how much damage it was doing me. It’s hard at first but after a month you won’t even think about it. I drink sparkling water when I miss the fizz but for the most part now it doesn’t even cross my mind. Good luck.

You've got nothing to be embarrassed about. Good on you for recognising the issue and doing something about it

I’d try and stay away from the diet stuff too. I’ve recently given up Diet Coke and it’s amazing how much less my sugar cravings are!!

When I had DC I walked with the buggy daily. I had arms of steel, firm legs stomach backside 'wistful...

The only thing that's worked for me re weight loss is low-carbing. I have a big appetite so it allows me to still eat enough whilst cutting out bread rice pasta cakes sweets etc. There's lots of other stuff you can eat. Also I don't know how/why, but it cuts snack cravings completely.

Ive always had fizzy drink craves. I get around that by drinking sparkling water, I either squeeze lime into it or have a splash of not-from-concentrate fruit juice in it. I've not had canned fizzy drinks for decades now so, maybe try this see if it works for you? Before then I used to drink 3/4 cans of Diet Pepsi per day, but I don't miss it at all now.

At least you've pulled yourself up about addiction. Good luck with exercise & weight loss.

Actually I'd love to know why fizzy drinks are so addictive

I really sympathise, to be honest, for me it’s Diet Coke. I can’t stop drinking it.
