What exactly is the Keto diet and is it effective?

Cut out all sugar, starch, cereals and grains. Replace what you take out with healthy fat. It worked for me. I lost 7.5 stone and have kept it off for 4 years

You can’t go in to it thinking it’s a diet/only for weightloss. Keto like other ways of eating only works if you adopt it as a lifestyle change and for health benefits. I’ve lost 5 stone but more than that - my skin is great, my periods no longer send me to bed with nausea and pain, my moods aren’t all over the place and I’ve loads more energy. I have found that high carbs messed with my moods and bloating. I eat way better and regularly and can finally exercise. I’ve been keto for over 18 months and it works for me but only because I wasn’t focused on weightloss. My focus continues to be living a better life.

Breakfast - eggs and mushrooms
Lunch - chicken, avocado and salad
Dinner - slow cooked pork (it’ll last us days), broccoli with cauliflower rice. My dc will have higher carbs Instead.
Snacks are little bits of cheese, berries or nuts.
It works for me as I feel in control of what I eat and I’ve lost that carb heavy stomach bloat.

You absolutely can’t cheat on it as it’ll push you out of Ketosis. Weirdly this is one of the things I like about it.
It’s not for everyone but try it for a month and see how you feel.

How long after starting do you go into ketosis and how long before you see/feel benefits?

It varies a little but usually a few days for Ketosis.
For the benefit it depends why you’re doing it. I lost over 1/2 stone on my first week but energy levels took a couple of weeks to fully stabilise.
Expect to feel utterly exhausted 2-3 days in, keep hydrated and it will pass.

I have just started keto, but not losing much weight ,although stomach has almost gone, don't know where I am going wrong, also my daughter is on it ,she needs to lose more weight than me ,i seemed to put about just over a stone on in the last few months, and only need to lose that much, as only 5ft tall so even with just I extra stone I can't get into my jeans/trousers ,even jumpers and have roll of fat around my middle, but stomach looks flatter, but doesn't show much on scales,
Where are we going wrong[me and daughter] please Confused

I found the Diet Doctor website useful for information, recipes, etc

Sometimes with keto you have spells where you lose inches rather than it showing on the scales but it evens out if you keep going

Diet Doctor is great, and if you’re an instagram user then My Keto Diary is good for inspiration.

Been Keto since 2016 and it’s great - never going back! It works, and I find it sustainable. You will go through a lot of eggs and avocados though!

There's loads of info on YouTube. I love Keto Christina for the info and how she shares her struggles with weight loss, Headbanger's Kitchen for recipes and then some American ones like Keto Connect.

Scrambled,eggs, streaky bacon, avocadoes,chicken, salmon, strawberries ,or raspberries and greek yoghurt
Not sure exactly what the recipes are ,daughters partner is usually cooking, they just bring me some of what he cooks,
I was a cake eater, pastry etc too, don't drink alcohol ;real sweet tooth, but not touched any sugar ,since
Her partner has lost about 7lbs, in 2 weeks, but he is more active my daughter has a sedentary job, and I am retired,
I used to walk a lot up to losing my little dog in August which helped keep my weight down.
#Although I am usually about 8 to 8and a half stone,i put over a stone on recently, but I am only 5ft tall so don't want to be anymore than 8,5
My daughter is about 5ft 6 and weighs about 10.5 stone,so she really needs to lose more weight than me
All the food we eat is from a keto diet recipe book

Does anyone know of a English version book of the Keto diet please. Keen to try this diet but find putting it together from American recipes just doesn’t work for me. I need English recipes.☹️
