I'm keen to kick start weight loss (and get back into my work clothes after summer)

I've been looking at VLCD's.

I tried slim fast but I can't stomach the shakes.

If I miss those out, I am starving.

Are there any similar diets, not based on powder shakes?

Look up Michael Mosley’s Fast800 diet. It’s similar to the 5:2 principle but with a slightly higher calorie intake aimed at kick starting weight loss.
