37.1 bmi, need to change!

Determinedtoloseweight · 26/08/2019 11:10

I've decided it's time to sort my weight out! Before I fell pregnant I was always around 130-140lb, the top part of a healthy weight for my height, at the time I always thought I was fat but I'd kill for that body now!
I ballooned through pregnancy and now, 10 months after ds was born I'm 202lb and 37.1bmi!

My biggest issues are... Everything! Portion size, choice of foods, snacking, almost no excersize (other than taking ds for walks)

Any time I've lost 3 pounds I'd inevitably put that on plus another 2 within a couple of weeks so now it's time for a change.

I've decided to keep track of my weight each week on this forum, having it written where people can see it should hopefully help keep me accountable, wish me luck Grin

If anyone else wants to join in the more the merrier Grin

Date; 26/8/19
Weight; 202lb
Bmi; 37.1
Left to lose; 72lb

Good luck!

I made the same decision in February and have now reached my weight goal. More importantly, I feel so much better and fitter.

My Fitness Pal is great for logging food and makes it easy to monitor your calorie consumption.

I also used a FitBit and made sure I did my 10,000 and 30 active minutes every day.

I hope you enjoy your journey, I actually found myself so motivated by the numbers going down on the scales that I didn't find it too hard to keep going!

Do you mind if I ask how much you needed to lose?
I hope I can be as motivated as you have!
Honestly, looking after ds can be so tiring that by the time he gets to sleep (almost 2am last night!) I just want to eat something quick and full of carbs then sleep myself. Maybe if I started to see the numbers go down I would be more motivated.

It's so hard with big pregnancy weight gain. It's happened to me with all three. With my youngest I gained 5 stone. Ds is 16 months and I've 9lbs to go. Its come off naturally as soon as he turned one. The same happened after both dds. I do walk a lot though which is good for my mental health. Good luck OP.

Before pregnancy I was very naive, I always thought I would eat the same way I always do and gain next to nothing... How wrong I was!
It started to come off naturally at a year? That's has given me hope but I don't think i can rely on it happening to me 🙁

I would recommend lowish carb calorie controlled diet like Fast 800 or a variation of. I have the recipe book and have managed to lose over a stone of post-kids weight in two months, which seems to be the ideal pace if you really want to keep the weight off long term. Recipes are mostly delicious and filling and I've barely been tempted to snack. I haven't been sticking to 800 calories - more along the lines of picking three meals per day plus a dessert and being strict on portion size. (Probably works out to more like 1200 calories per day) Tbh i think it's the lower carbs (and only wholegrain ones when i do eat them) and higher protein that has helped me the most. I was always a one for making a huge pan of pasta in the evening before or buying crisps and chocolate after dropping the kids off and it's ditching those habits that has also really helped. If you're determined enough you'll do it!

Of course not, I've lost 52lbs. I've only just got there, so am now focussed on maintaining.

It won't work for everyone, but I bought myself new scales and daily weighed to keep myself on track. I lost a small amount of weight every day at the outset and it really helped me stay on track.

@Rufflecrow

I think you're right about low carb being the way to go, I often make huge pots of pasta, something everyone (me, ds and dh) can all eat but that will be changing!

I am 207lbs but slightly taller I think (BMI is 35). I'd like to lose about 60lbs. Shall we do it together?

@AiryFairyMum
Hi, I'd love to do this together Smile
I'm only 5'2, all the extra lbs are very noticeable on me... But hopefully that will work the other way round and any progress will be just as noticable :)

I'm doing the low carb bootcamp on here and it's pretty easy. Nice food too!

I've done the first day of the couch to 5k (just in my living room walking/running from one wall to another) workout today, the phone app is really helpful and encouraging but I was pretty knackered after it and it was only day one... I find it hard to believe I will actually be able to run for 30 minutes non stop by the end but we'll see Hmm.

I've also looked out a jillian michaels dvd, the very easiest one to try tomorrow.

I plan to update my weight/progress here every Monday.

So far so good but it is only day one 😅

Thank you!

I did C25K as well. I also couldn't imagine it working but I did it! I had to repeat runs here and there but I got there. I am still running as well as it is easier for me to fit in around family than scheduled exercise classes.

Sounds as though your mind is really in the right place to do this, I think that's half the battle.

Can I join in? I'm currently 225.5lbs, I started trying to lose weight on 29th July and have lost 9.25lbs so far.
I've set myself a 1500 calorie a day limit, I aim for 12,500 steps a day but a bare minimum of 10,000, and record everything in my fitness pal. Also using my Apple Watch to record any exercise, but struggling to find the time to be honest.
Best things I've done is when I make a family meal from scratch I put it into mfp as a recipe so i can log it easily next time make it, and if it makes four portions and we're only going to eat three (me, hubs and two small kids) I plate up the last portion and chuck it in the fridge for one of us to have for lunch tomorrow, whereas before we'd have just eaten it that night between us. Also daft things like weighing out the recommended portions of my breakfast granola - I was eating about 2-3 times the portion size and I don't miss the extra!

Oh, I should say I'm aiming to be 10st 7lbs, the top of the healthy bmi for my height, but realistically if I get to about 11st 7lbs I'll be bloody delighted! So I need to lose at least 60lbs

Oh! And weighing daily, to see my natural fluctuations. I think it's stopped me being too scared of the weekly weigh in!

Low carb is a great plan, but you have to remember it is 90% about the calories you take in. If you continue to overeat, exercise will not help.

The more the merrier :)
To lose that in a month already is brilliant, I hope I have the willpower you do to keep it up!

It's great to know I'm not the only one with so much to lose :)

I had a very low carb dinner of lamb steak and salad but the portion was still huge to make it filling enough for me, I definitely need to find a balance Hmm

@Determinedtoloseweight thanks, I'm determined to plod on this time around (not my first rodeo!) and not be disheartened by little gains and smaller than hoped for losses. I don't know, this time around my mindset just feels different, usually I throw myself into a diet doing everything really strictly, cutting out certain things, being hard on myself. This time I've decided that if I have something and it takes me 200 over my daily calories, so long as I really wanted it and it's my decision, I'm not going to give myself shit for it, I'm just going to carry on being sensible tomorrow again. Because that's just life isn't it?

I remember reading something about if you had a tenner in change and dropped a pound coin, you wouldn't throw the other £9 in the bin, because of that one daft mistake. I think it was meant to be in reference to not letting one shitty encounter spoil your mood for the entire day, but I've found that little analogy has stopped me going 'off the wagon' just because I've had a snickers lol

Hi op, my stats are pretty much identical to yours, even got a 10 month old here too! I am utterly fed up with my size, with feeling so horribly unfit, sore knees, sweaty, bloated, the works! I started this day last week, I’ve managed one whole week of 1600 cals a day and a 25 minute walk every day and I genuinely feel so much better already. I’ve lost 4lb, which I’m sure is partly water weight but even if this takes a year plus I’d rather go slowly and make this my lifestyle. I’ve done the crash diets and they just aren’t maintainable for me. I’m up for joining you on this! Do you have mfp? My little walk every night is just to the end of the road and back and I’m doing it right after I get the kids to bed, it’s actually helping my mental health too just to get some headspace!

My kids are older late primary, I lost 3 stone 3 years ago but most has gone back on. Accountability through posting on here really helped.

Lots going on, heavily loaded job and risk of redundancy next year, elderly parents including one going into permanent residential care soon on top of kids, husband and life in general.
But need to shift this, bmi is just under 38.

Weight today is 192lbs
Target loss 63lbs
