When did people start commenting on your weight loss

I know I’m losing it for me, not others (I really am, my heart went bang in April.

I’m 5’1”, was 13st 4lb when weighed the night of my heart attack. I’m now 11st 1lb. I know I’m smaller because I’m able to wear clothes I haven’t for years, but apart from one friend no one has given me the ‘wow, you’ve lost weight!’ Which after hav8ng the stares because I’d gained so much, I am craving.

My kids mention it, but no one else unless I bring it up first

Is it because they think ‘crap, she is ill, she’s so much thinner’

Or do they think ‘if I say she’s lost weight I’m acknowledging she was a bit hefty before!’

Or does a bit more need to come off? I’m eating heart friendly and have been walking most days for an hour, little hiccup last week as I was readmitted and some more pipe cleaners etc sorting coronary arteries.

Thanks for reading 🙂

Hi I sometimes wonder about this. I've had 3 babies quite close together and put on and lost 3-4 stones each time and nobody except for my DM, DH and one friend have ever said anything when I've lost although DFIL always comments when I'm pregnant and have ballooned!!
Well done on your weight loss!

Sounds like you are doing amazingly well.

I get comments after at least a stone, closer to two. I've recently lost about 1.5 stone after a stressful life event and now it's blazingly hot I'm wearing clothes that make it obvious. I have had some days where everyone I bump into says something. But it just makes me feel uncomfortable, tbh, because like you said, what were they thinking before?!

I had comments after about a stone/stone and a half. But equally I don't comment on people's weight unless I know they've been actively trying to lose it and would welcome comments (because I know people who lost it through illness, eating disorders etc) so it could be people are being polite. It does also bring up a 'you were heavier before' thing which people sometimes want to avoid, as PPs have said

Well done by the way!

Chances are, people are thinking it. I've definitely thought "wow X has lost loads of weight" but not said it to them.

Thanks all 🙂 this is the lifestyle I should have been on years ago. I can’t explain the shock, disbelief and no longer trusting my own body. I’m not stupid, but certainly never imagined heart disease hitting me at age 51.

It’s the little buzzes of the weight going down that is the good aspect of all this.

I go back to work (hopefully) on 20 Aug, after nearly 4 months off and hopefully a good 2 1/2 stone slimmer!

Commenting on weight is a minefield.

I stick to the 'you look really well', line.

I've lost 8lb and two people have said similar, it's because I'm getting my face back. So I've said quite openly that it's because I've lost weight.

Once you bring it up, people will come out and say that they'd noticed but didn't like to say anything.

I wouldn't comment out of politeness unless I knew the person was dieting.
You have done amazingly well, I'm sorry you were so ill, but may your weight loss and new healthy life continue Flowers

I manage to put on and lose 7lb all the time Hmm I expect people to notice and comment when I lose it but not when I put it on GrinGrin

I think a lot of people are hesitant to say it as it implies they think you were big before usually. Also if they know you have been poorly maybe they think it would be insensitive to mention it; but it sounds like you are doing amazing.

I had wls so people started commenting about a week after surgery .. I'm now 6months in and 7 stone down . a size 12 from 24 and I still love hearing 'wow you look amazing' .. it keeps me motivated! (Interestingly no one said 'wow how did you get so big ' when I was 19 stone !!)
