Hi all,

Following on from yesterday, asking you to harshly critique my food intake!

I’m trying to eat more healthily and run 4 x week. For info I’m 5ft4 and need to lose a stone in the next 8 weeks so need to eat 1200 calories a day. Please be really harsh and rip up my food intake/ give me tips if needed.

Thank you Flowers

Breakfast: (not sure on cals)
2 pieces mango
Handful blueberries
Handful raspberries

Lunch: (about 350 cals)
1 chicken breast with ginger, soy sauce and garlic
Lots of broccoli (poster yesterday said to fill up on veg 😉)
50g brown rice
2 satsumas

Dinner (approx 550 cals)
Medium portion of beef and chickpea stew with cous cous (beef mince, chickpeas, cous cous, spray oil only, tomato paste, garlic, harissa, beef stock cube, mint, baharat and chopped dates and apricots).

Snack:
1 bitesize piece Turkish delight

Drinks:
2 x tea with hazelnut milk
Lots of water

If you don't lose weight on that, then something's wrong. I think it's definitely good enough.

Just don't eat your foot. Too many calories

And if you really want to be severe, then lose the Turkish delight, the hazelnut milk, the couscous.

I think some people will say lose the fruit. I'm one of those who believes fruit sugars are different, and you can afford to keep it in.

Very helpful thank you- do you think I need to cut out cous cous, hazelnut milk and Turkish delight to lose the weight in 8 weeks?

No, I don't think you need to cut them out. I really don't. I was eating about the same as you - perhaps slightly more - and I was averaging about 3 lbs a week, and with no exercise. You have more than enough time, imo. But stick around and see if others dis/agree.

@AFistfulofDolores1 I’m too scared to step on scales to monitor weight loss at moment 🙈

I'd cut the dates and apricots out because they're really sugary. Berries are a much better choice. Maybe add a bit of protein with breakfast so that you feel full for longer.

I would cut out either lunch or dinner completely, you are having two main meals.

I've just lost a stone in 6 weeks eating significantly more than that, and very little exercise so you should be fine. Bear in mind though that if you're putting on muscle that will skew your actual weight loss, so take your measurements too so you've got an idea of actual inches lost.

Cut out dinner or lunch completely? What? This is weird advice, she’s saying she’s going to run four times a week. I burn off between 600-800 calories when I run for 40-60 minutes.

It's a lot of fruit imo so lots of sugar. I eat 1200 calories a day and bulk meals with baby spinach or cabbage.

Gosh @allthegoodusernameshavegone do you think I need to go that drastic?! I have been feeling quite full after lunch!

@Aspieteach thank you for advice- I hadn’t thought about apricots/dates sugar levels and I can remove them simply 😊

How are people loosing 3lbs a week on that diet? I'd manage 1lb eating like that with exercise 4-5 times a week.

I thought you'd have to be very heavy to see a 3lb weight loss ?

Have a look at the fast 800 blood sugar diet threads. Lots of support all research based, and you’ll lose a stone on well under 8 weeks

@user2085372673 I’m only running 4km each time so maybe I do need to cut lunch? I’m a bit worried as I’ll be so hungry and I didn’t think I needed to skip meals to lose weight.

@Myusernameismud that is really helpful to know it worked for you!

@lboogy do you also think I need to be cutting down food?! Just a bit worried if you think I’m eating too much and not exercising enough to shift more than a pound a week- I can change my diet and reduce if needed 🙂.

Gosh perhaps I do need to cut food down- hard to tell without weighing myself but the thread is certainly making me think!

Exercise does nothing - well, not that much at all. Calorie deficit is what you need to go for.

Why not try your diet for a week, weigh yourself, and then adjust as necessary?

Report
Summerflab · 11/06/2019 21:30

That’s a helpful approach may take the plunge and weigh myself tomorrow so I can follow my plan for a week and then tweak if needed as you suggested

That looks like a good diet to me with no crap and plenty of protein. I would lose weight on it.
