What to eat to keep me full and stop me from snacking on crap

I would like to lose the stone that has crept on slowly over the past year or two.

I am having a difficult time as my Dad is unwell and I’m finding it hard to stay on top of everything, work, kids, visiting Dad etc..
As a result I think I’ve been comfort eating and just snacking on crap and probably drinking too much wine.

I haven’t been planning meals well enough although we do eat pretty healthily as a rule. Instead of doing a planned weekly shop I end up running to the supermarket daily between work & school.

I just feel hungry in between meals and end up reaching for the biscuit tin!

What sort of things should I be eating to remain fuller for longer?
Also what shall I buy to eat as snacks that are healthy but not just fruit? I like fruit but sometimes I just want something that’s not fruit and I don’t know what.

Protein- lean meats, baked chicken breasts, turkey. Plenty of veg, salads with low fat vinaigrette. Limit alcohol.

Try Greek yoghurt Fage 0% fat. Full of protein. I add a little fruit.

Also be good to yourself as your poor Dad is unwell and you've a lot on. Eat and drink for nutrients. Drink more water. Basically if something isn't nutrient dense I try not to eat it. And I don't snack unless very hungry.

Thank you Lisette. I feel like I’ve forgotten how to eat properly and healthily. I seem to crave all the bad stuff.
Think I might try my fitness pal so that I can actually see what is in what I’m eating and try and make better choices.

I've just started a thread in weightloss chat about starting MFP, I started a few days ago and I'm finding it very helpful to stop me snacking. I think the meals I have are pretty healthy and I eat lots of veg at mealtimes but I'm a terrible snacker. I can't have just one biscuit, it's 5 or 6 or the packet

Eat proper meals and don't snack. If you can cut out or cut down sugar and alcohol, it will help you to feel less hungry between meals.

Also, try to look after yourself, get enough sleep and try to minimise the stress in your life (easier said than done, but a little self care helps a lot). Flowers

Poor you. Try to plan your meals so that you are getting enough nutrients and beyond that - water, rice cakes, crudités... think ‘am I hungry or just wanting to eat?’ The more you do that the better you will feel when you think ‘I’m just wanting something because I am bored or stressed’. You can’t beat a nice cuppa (no sugar) or even a herbal tea.

I have head hunger rather than tummy hunger and have been overweight for years. I need to start listening to my stomach more rather than my brain and eat more mindfully.
I started today and wasn't actually hungry until 1.30pm which is odd for me.
I know I need to portion control, this will the way I can lose weight.

I find that the more flavour my food has, the more time it takes for me to start feeling hungry. So I like to use lots of spices, chilli, citrus etc in my food.

Food with lots of fibre keeps me feeling fuller for longer too. I especially like bulgar wheat. I use it instead of rice, couscous etc.

For snacks, I like chocolate covered rice cakes, apple with peanut butter, or carrot sticks with hummus. I think the trick with snacks is to not choose ones that are too sugary, as that just ends up causing more cravings
