Ok I am early fifties weight has crept in over the years. Now I am 6ft tall size 22 with a massive stomach.
I want need results and to see progress or I get disheartened.
What is the best way to tone up especially my stomach and loose weight.
I have an under active thyroid and problems with my feet.
Be gentle.

I also need some exercises for stomach fat.... things I can do at home that don’t involve jumping about due to bad knee and ankle! My stomach is also huge!

Unfortunately there is no such things as weightloss aimed at target areas.

You’ll need to lose weight all over to get your stomach size down.

Weightloss is about 80% diet, 20% exercise, so you can still do this even if exercise options are limited. Once you start to lose weight exercise may become easier and it certainly helps with toning, but it can’t help you lose inches in specific areas.

Sorry, I wish I had a more positive response than that! My advice would be to start a calorie controlled diet and accept that you may need to do that for a fairly long time before you get the results you’re after. It’s a marathon, not a sprint

I’ve been dieting since January and lost 6 inches off my waist, so it can be done, but it certainly takes time and perseverance. It’s worth it though and you will soon start to see small changes that will, hopefully, keep you motivated!

I started with the NHS 12 week plan

www.nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-weight/start-the-nhs-weight-loss-plan/

It’s aimed at teaching you how to make healthy choices and generally improve your health. I think it’s a pretty good, non-faddy plan.

I’ve recently switched to intermittent fasting (16:8), as my weight loss stalled for a good few weeks. I’m still applying everything I learnt from the NHS plan, but am now only eating during an 8 hr slot. It’s not as hard as it sounds!

I’ve lost over 2.5 stone since January and am almost in the healthy weight range.

Before I started I had painful joints and sharp pains in my feet, if I walked for more than a few minutes. It was amazing how fast all of that disappeared once I lost a bit of weight and it gave me a massive incentive to keep going.

I think the trick with weightloss is to not focus on some weight you’d like to be at the end of your diet. Break it up into smaller goals and take it one day at a time.

There’s a “lose half a stone” thread for May and there wil probably be one for each month of the year. You might want to join us on one of those? Having that support from others that are also trying to lose weight can make a huge difference!

Thanks both I lost just over 2 stone in preparation for last summer as I had three big social events coming up and with shapewear I felt great in a new dress at these events.
The events I had coming up really helped motivate me to keep going. I used my Fitbit, went to the gym 3-4 times a week and tried to get 10K steps in everyday, weighed myself weekly and recorded it. Ate more veg combined with M&S low cal meals and chicken or salmon and salad etc on an evening and salads at lunch time etc.
This year I now don’t have any big event on the horizon to give me the kick up the bum I need to get me started. Once I was in the zone I was ok.
