If you are trying to lose weight, do you keep clothes you would like to fit into? Or is it delusional....?

I'm trying to lose weight after baby number 2, and also have a horrible overhang from 2x c-sections. Sad

I've got rid of a lot of my pre-baby clothes but there are a few I just don't want to part with. In my head I'll be able to fit them again one day soon. I'm not sure this is actually realistic because even after baby no 1 when I was a reasonably ok-ish weight, they never really fitted my torso again.

How do you part with clothes you adore and you know you once looked/felt great in? I feel like it's acceptance I'll never be that slim/that shape again and although that's probably true I'm very far in denial Grin

I did that once, I kept a pair of pink jeans I loved when I was slim... I eventually lost enough weight to wear them, put them On, and they looked hideously out of date Envy took me longer to loose the weight than I thought

I think baby weight is different to ‘putting in weight. My body changed shape after my pregnancy, so although I did eventually get back to my pre baby weight, but my body shape was different. So things that once looked good, simply didn’t hang right any longer.

I packed my slimmer/work clothes into a case which I stuck in the loft when I went on maternity leave until I needed them again... it took a long time...

It was handy though as I lost weight (I did gain a lot and my weight had fluctuated a lot pre kids anyway) I had clothes in pretty much all the sizes so even the stuff I didn’t like much did a job till I got down to the next one. My shape (and probably my taste) did change a bit, a few things I was happy to get back into looked awful anyway!

What really pissed me off was the amount of clothes still with tags on that I had bought to slim into and then never ever wore. I eBayed most of it but I clearly had compulsive buying habits (especially for sale items) now if stuff doesn’t fit I return it.

In short if you’ve got space I’d keep it, you can always get rid in the future.

Keep them - you never know! Although most people get bigger as they get older there are some that manage to become slimmer.

God yes, I kept mine.

And you know what? It's been totally worth it. I had a pair of linen pedal pushers that I could never ever quite fit into : but I tried them on yesterday and BANG they fit!

You have no idea how happy I am about this.

I did keep mine but as pp said, my shape had changed significantly. Had a huge Csection overhang (13 years on still) so my body was never the same, even when I got 'thinner' than pre pregnancy!

Be realistic about the quality and styles but yes. I have lost 20lbs and fit loads of my old clothes. I also use them for motivation I keep them them in size order and start wearing them as soon as they fit.

I kept mine. And I’m glad I did. As of last week I had three new pairs of jeans to wear. I will not stop until I can get into all my old summer clothes. Then when I can I’m going to buy myself some more. But it’s nice. It’s like getting a whole new wardrobe for free
