How to stop binging(12 Posts)
I normally try to ignore my weight but recently things have gotten a bit out of hand. I started eating like crazy beginning of last year and can’t seem to get a grip on it. I’m binging all day everyday.
I’ve recently got a new job and am trying really hard to cut down but all that happens is any time I cut down I binge later on.
I’m probably consuming about 3-4K calories a day. I feel out of control and don’t know what to do. I’ve never eaten healthily but this is something else! Has anyone had this and managed to control it?!
Have you tried just eating within a timed window, for example between 11.00am and 7.00 pm ? I've had a lot of success with this recently. You could start off by eating what you like but just in that 8 hour window and then start to make healthier choices once you've got used to the restricted times? No real advice but I'm doing very low calorie diet in the 8 hour window and it is working. I'm not very active though and have a desk job so I think VLC isn't for everyone. Good luck OP , someone more experienced might come along and be more help than I can be but really sympathise and didn't want to read and run.
I find if I eat in the morning, esp something carby I just wanna eat ALL day so like the poster above I eat in a window (11-7 roughly). Also if you can find another outlet for stress that might help (if the binges are stressed fuelled); yoga? Also, when I'm feeling really bingey and I know it's not real hunger I drink tea or go for a walk.
I do think the hinges are stress linked but subconsciously. Like I’ll say I don’t feel stressed but when I look back over the course of the day I think actually today was pretty stressful and can see where if just grabbed a packet of multipack crisps. I feel like a disaster.
I like the idea of eating in a window. I’ve stopped going to the supermarket so jug as if just fill up a trolley of crap when I was only ‘popping in for milk’
It’s definitely not hunger and me just being out of control. I know I don’t need that extra packet of crisps m. This morning I’ve eaten a whole 8 serving cake to myself.
I used to binge a lot, especially when tired. I'm roughly following low calorie boot camp and I find that I'm so full I genuinely don't want to binge (I can't even believe I'm saying that!). I eat 2 meals a day (not a breakfast fan) and a small evening snack of cheese or occasionally a kitkat. The food is covered in butter etc so doesn't feel like a diet.
I did low carb and lost a lot of weight but feel off the wagon a bit. Perhaps I’ll try that again only problem is I think that’s where it all went wrong. I missed carbs sooo much I just went all out and kept going. But yes low carb boot camp not such a bad idea thanks

I would say no carb, no sugar has done it for me. And a lot of reading about why I was doing it - Michael Mosley Fast 800 or Blood Sugar Diet if you want easily understandable, Robert Lustig if you want hardcore science.
Essentially your insulin levels are high, your body keeps telling you are on the verge of starvation every time they drop and you are driven to eat more carbs, the cycle goes on and on. It is not a lack of willpower on your part - your brain has v little to do with the choices you are making.
2 weeks of hell and I was surprised how little I could eat in a day.
The real difficulty is then than you are surrounded by shit food all day long - half the supermarket is 'not for you' but these forums are incredibly supportive and motivating.
Ok I think it’s a good plan. Better than no plan! I actually don’t eat bread at all anyway but I have a complete soft spot for cake and biscuits ahhh 🍰 ! Will have a look at some low carb plans tonight.
