Weight Loss has completely stalled :(

Hi All

I'm currently doing the Cambridge Diet, I've had some good weight loss, 9lbs the first week, then 4lbs then 5lbs. Last week I only lost 1 1/2 lbs, my consultant said this was completely normally and will be followed by a bigger weight loss the following week however this week, I've lost nothing.

I am currently doing step one and I have not eaten anything other than the three Cambridge products each day, absolutely ZERO cheating.

I'm a mum of two so light exercise, mainly walking every day.

I'm so upset, I'm currently 11st 12, I'm only 4ft 11 so still very overweight, my goal is to get to 10 stone.

Has anyone got any experience of this? Do I just need to carry on sticking it out? Am I doing something wrong? Sad

I'm not familiar with the Cambridge diet, but with any diet peaks and valleys are perfectly normal. One thing you have to watch out for is the so called starvation response, a slowing of your metabolic rate in response to lower calories. It's not as dramatic and effect as some make it out to be, but it's still real. The way to work through it is to increase your activity level.

How far have you been walking and can you increase it a bit?

I'm currently experiencing this with Slimming World. Week 1 I lost 1/2 a stone, week 2 zilch and I was so good. It's so disheartening isn't it! I've been told that we should look at weight loss over a month, so not to expect a loss every week and calculate each month. Apparently the weekly weigh ins are to motivate. I'm also aiming for 10stone but I have 6 stone to lose, hopefully it'll average out and I'll have a loss each month overall.

Weight loss is just not a linear thing. There will always be weigh ins where the scale refuses to budge even though you've carefully stuck to the plan. But even though I know this, I'm still ridiculously disappointed every time it happens to me!

It is also possible that you could be at a bloat point in your menstrual cycle. Gaining water weight in the approach to your period is really common, so water retention might be masking fat loss.

Stick at it and you’ll have a bigger drop in a week or two. Bodies are weird and contrary!

Look at the big picture, you're never going to have losses like that all the time. You've done really well and are lucky to have had such a flying start. But whatever diet you do it slows down sooner or later and you have to keep working for it.

Sounds like you’re female of child bearing age...due to hormones your weight will fluctuate (expect water retention around ttom).
