“Healthy habits - one at a time” thread?

Would anyone be interested in joining me?

This isn’t strictly about weight loss, so apologies for posting here. But I’m hoping that weight loss will be an inevitable consequence of me making healthier choices.

There are so many things I could be doing for my health, which I am not doing for one reason or another.

I do need to lose some weight. I no longer want to be super slim, which is what I used to aim for, and occasionally achieved. I just want to be a healthy weight, which would mean losing about half a stone. But anyway, as I said this isn’t strictly a weight loss thread.

My plan is to change one habit at a time, wait for it to become a habit and only then move on to the next thing.

The first thing I am going to do is to stop having any alcohol at home, unless we have company. I wouldn’t say I drink a lot, but it’s such a waste of calories when I do and I’ve also read a bit more recently about how alcohol impedes weight loss, even if you’re still eating fewer calories. Add to that the other problems alcohol consumption brings with it and it’s definitely something I want to limit.

I don’t get out much, so restricting alcohol to meals out or when we have company at home will mean a huge reduction in the opportunities I have to drink alcohol.

After that, I’ll tackle exercise, caffeine, sugar or whatever.

My point is, I don’t want to do everything hell for leather like I usually do only to fall off the wagon eventually and undo all my hard work.

They say that once you make one healthy change, others seem to follow, so this is my plan.

Would anyone like to join me?

I will join you! I’ve been working on loosing weight since jan with a calorie deficit on MFP and also doing strength training and it’s working but I need to ditch the wine too. Easily slip into having a glass or 2 with dinner every night and you’re right it’s such a waste of cals and also a bad habit!

Hi cheese! Glad to have some company Smile.

I definitely want to tackle alcohol first. It doesn’t do my skin, (I have rosacea Angry - that’s my red face Grin), mood or tiredness levels any favours either if I drink several nights a week. I definitely notice a difference if I reduce it, even though I’m not what I would call a big drinker in the first place. And, tbh, I don’t get much out of drinking wine on the sofa in front of the tv. It’s a lot nicer to get out and see friends or with dh. Maybe another side effect of my no booze at home rule will be forcing me out of the house a bit more too Grin.

I really want to find an exercise / sport that I love and that I can do most days. That will probably be next on my list. How have you been finding the weights? Do you love it or is it a bit of a chore?

I love the weights! I was doing the shred / ripped in 30 a lot but I hate cardio tbh and was getting bored of it. I’ve done a lot of reading and found actually lifting weights and doing strength / resistance training for women is the best way to increase lean muscle and improve posture. Cardio is fine for fitness but it doesn’t do much to change your body particularly and takes so much time. 30 mins to an hour of a YouTube vid incorporating weights and resistance bands is easily doable at home and I actually really enjoy it! Can mix it up with different work outs and I’m seeing a huge difference in body shape. Defo give it a try 😊😊

Oh that does sound good!

I am planning to join the gym and maybe having a few sessions with a PT, so maybe they can give me a weight routine.
