How the bloody hell do I lose weight?

I need to lose 5 stone but am so overwhelmed by all the different diets, plans and methods I've confused myself.
This week alone I've looked at Simming World, WW, 5:2 and intuitive eating.
Has anyone had any success with losing a lot of weight. How did you do it?
I'm not fussed by how long it takes, I just would like something that I can stick to!

You could try the "100lbs to lose" thread on here, as there's lots of friendly people tackling losing significant amounts of weight - you'd get a mix of ideas from that. Many people on there have tried various options previously, but bounced back, and have found it helpful to think about why, and about what their greatest challenges are.

The short answer is: whichever way you think you'll be able to commit to as a long-term life change. Almost anything sensible will "work" but only if it fits with your mindset, preferences, life pressures etc so that you're able to keep going with it day in, day out. Some people will tell you low carb, some will say fasting, some will say blood sugar diet ....and so on, and so on. But whichever way of eating you choose has to work for you enough that you don't feel too deprived and so you're able to carry on with it pretty much indefinitely. For example, I rejected WW because I knew I would rebel against having to weigh my pasta for the rest of my life Grin and I also knew that I had to make a "forever" change because otherwise I'll just end up in the same state as before, undoing all the good work.

Good luck with the path you choose - it's achievable, you can do it!

Eat fewer calories is the answer, but with a healthy approach. Eat as much veg as you can, and at least one portion of protein a day. Avoid carbs like the plague and fill up on the veg. Breakfast should be low calorie, so a piece of fruit and zero percent yoghurt. M and S are good for calorie controlled lunches. Their caesar salad and sushi is good. I lost 2 stone rigidly buying a 200 calorie lunch followed by m n s melon and grape munchies for another 100 calories. Loads of veg in the evening, either making my own soup, (using one small potato and added veg) or vegetables and a piece of chicken or steak. Veg can be roasted if you like using spray olive oil and adding soy sauce or balsamic vinegar. No dessert, and celery stick or carrots raw when I was desperate. It is about getting in the mindset for me. I'm struggling this year though, and need to lose a stone. Good luck . . . and take one day at a time.

Thanks so much for replying to my post. You both speak sense.
I do need to find a realistic plan. The thing that put me off WW is having to count everything. I have a toddler and work full time so doubt I could 100% commit to logging everything.
Just feel so sad up with how I've let myself go since pregnancy.
I used to be a size 10 and so confident and now I can't stand being seen. So sad.

Calories in v calories out. Diets can dress it up as much as they want but that's what it comes down to. Have a look at rebelfit on fb. Don't bother with sw/ww etc

I reckon most people would lose weight if they gave up snacking and wheat.

I lost over 4 stone after ds2. Took up exercise (at first it was 20 min hiit work outs) and only ate carbs after exercise. My meals contained a lot of veg and good protein (turkey, chicken etc) it took 8 months.

I have gone up and down 1 1/2 stone since losing the weight my lightest was 9st 6lbs heaviest 14st. I'm now at 11st 4lb after a very relaxed 3 months 😬

I'm now doing 5:2, and I'm trying to make sure I don't eat after 8pm so I have a 12 or 16 hour window without eating.

Good luck x

The only thing that's ever worked for me is slimming world once you get your head around it . I lost 6lbs last week first week back on it and am now motivated to stay in control of what I eat. I don't go to groups I do it from home and keep a food diary. Slimming world sort of tricks you into a low calorie diet without having to count calories -good luck whatever you choose. And if you do choose slimming world there are so many amazing instagram recipes etc

I lost 3 stone with SW a few years ago.
Nowadays I prefer to eat low carb as it keeps hunger at bay and I mix it with Fasting. However, fasting is hard to get going at first, now I find it pretty easy. I'm a bit of an all or nothing person so it suits me.

Thank you all for taking the time to reply. I think I'm over thinking things a bit and letting it stress me out.
I just wish I didn't love wine and cheese so much!

I have a similar amount of weight to lose. My plan is just to eat less food, and do more exercise. I started it on the 7th and have already lost over 5lbs. I have to walk a lot in my daily life, so that really helps I think. But I've added more exercise into my day to day routine. I've done a HIIT dvd a couple times a week, and get on the exercise bike on the days I'm not doing the dvd. And have cut down on the snacking. I'm trying not to stress. Or feel bad when I do have a snack or whatever. Hope you find something that works for you!
