Its worth doing because I make most things from scratch and have a few staples that I just couldn't be bothered to try to work out each time. There are loads or recipes in the 'bank' that other people have saved anyway which is really helpful when you cook 'foreign' food!
Its definitely worth bothering. A few years ago I lost about 5 stone using MFP. I entered my recipes as I cooked them and it really wasn't much effort. mfp starts remembering the things you enter so it gets quicker to find them.
There isn't a huge amount of weighing. Generally you'll enter something like half a pepper or you can see a pack of mushrooms is 300 g and you're using half of it so can enter 150g without weighing it. Most vegetables don't have a huge amount of calories so if you made a judgement it won't be too inaccurate but something like adding 3 tablespoons of oil rather than 2 might add 150 calories which is a more serious mistake.
Obviously carbs like pasta and rice should be weighed as I think we all eat too much and they have lots of calories.
As long as you weight fats and protein, you won't go too far wrong, but yes, in principle, the more you count, the more you lose!
Do people really bother? Also, how often do you actually make things the same way? Do you weigh everything every time?
I do it as I go along so have quite a few of my own ‘recipes’ in there now. It’s worth it because I use very little fat and salt when I cook.
Do it once and save it as a meal/recipe and then you can just select that saved meal the next time
Hi, I’ve just downloaded the app and am not sure if it’s going to work.
It seems to be predicated on mostly eating standardised foods. I cook everything from scratch, but I also have ADHD, so there’s no chance I’ll weigh every portion, let alone input each recipe.
Is it still worth doing, even though it’ll all be very rough approximations?
