Water and calories

So I'm back on the weight loss train once again. I went up to 13st 8lbs while in Rome last week.
In the couple of days after I returned I dropped 2 lbs which is normal for me after flying.
I decided I needed to drink more as I am dehydrated most of the time without realising it so downloaded an app to remind me to drink water (I hate water). I am drinking nearly 3l of water and coffee per day instead of my normal 6 coffees. I am also calorie counting 1400 per day on fitness pal.
Today I weighed in at 12st 13!!! I am convinced this is due to the water and have now started reading about losing weight through water. Will keep it up this week and check my progress!

How does this work then? Are you eating less due to the amount you are drinking? Do you feel better in other ways?

Water retention is alleviated by drinking more water, so it could be that?
Also, depending on what you eat you will retain or flush out water. I do a low carb diet, resulting in being quite glycogen depleted a lot of the time. If I had a night out and ate a lot of carbs (bread, pudding, crisps, alcohol) etc, I’d find I’d gain 4-5lbs literally overnight. Once I resume my LC diet, it drops off overnight too.

For every molecule of glycogen stored in your muscles, you hold (I think) 3-4 molecules of water. When you become glycogen depleted (through fasting, exercise, eating low carb) you also shed the water.

Be careful as you say ‘using water’ to lose weight, as you can actually drink too much and become very depleted in salts.

Most people gain weight after flying - all those extra meals, snacks and drinks the cabin crew press on you.

The air in aeroplane cabins is very 'dry' I believe as it is related (a bit) to the reduced moisture content at high altitude.

I always gain and lose after flying. Maybe the salty snacks and dry air if I gain weight on holiday from eating too much I know two days after I get back I will be two pounds down.
The app is Water Reminder. I had to be careful as it was reminding me every half hour to drink and I was downing nearly a pint it gave me massive headaches! Now I'm drinking about 200mls it is making me less likely to drink coffee and I think it's flushing out a lot of the water retention I had in also not craving snacks as much after the week. Some of the loss will be from change in diet as I have cut out snacking and all the sugary sweets I was having.
I'm not assuming water is the master cure but it's helping me loads I didn't realise how dehydrated I must have been I feel better in myself and my skin is clearing up. Hopefully the inches will follow the pounds
