I need to start losing weight from tomorrow...what should I eat?

Basically if I knew how to diet, I wouldn’t be in this mess. Needing to lose a considerable amount so happy to take any and all advice!

I’m not massively fussy but I don’t like fish, pasta or spice!

I eat one meal a day around 2pm, can be anything but I try and have more veg than carbs. 2l water a day. No treats in house at all

Use my fitness pal to work out how many calories you should have. Then log everything you eat. Keep within the calories you’ve been allocated.

One meal? That's ridiculous! Watching with interest though as I need to get a grip too.....!

Btw I’m 3 stone down and need to lose about the same again. It’s starting to get hard now and I’m having to do other stuff too to help (more exercise and thinking about what sort of calories I’m eating) but this was how I started. You’d be surprised at how much you can eat.

I also think one meal is not great and not really necessary. I have 3 meals plus one snack and even some wine a couple of times a week.

Cut carbs as much as you can and eat LOADS of salad. It’s a very vague sort of diet but it’s working for me.

Oooh responses! Thanks!

One meal a day? No way could I do that, I’d end up eating my arm off!

Lots of salad I can do, water I can do, fewer carbs might be tricky but I’ll give it a bloody good go.

Will be weighing in the morning to reveal the true horror, wish me luck!

I don't have breakfast and have reduced portion sizes. I cycle everywhere. That's it.

Hullabalooo how much have you lost if you don’t mind me asking?

Main thing is to cut out sugar and anything with sugar in it.
Drink at least 2L water a day.
Eat 3 low carb meals.
No snacks at all.

What would you call a low carb meal?

Cut out as much sugar and carbs as you can manage. For example if you have toast for breakfast don't have pasta for lunch and chips for dinner. Eggs are really good for breakfast and snacks. I have 2 boiled eggs sometimes, it's 140 calories and keeps me going for most of the morning.

I also think ready meals where the calories are worked out for you really help. Tesco and Sainsbury's do some 300 calorie ones that are really filling.

One meal a day is ridiculous. Bodies need fuel just to perform basic functions!

Agree with MyFitnessPal but do not let it default you to 1200 calories like it does for everyone who puts their goal as weight loss, it's usually far too low for most people. Use an online calculator like IIFYM.com and answer the questions honestly, it will tell you what calories to set on the MFP app and then if you want to go further, it will tell you how many grams of protein, carbs and fats to eat. I would just start with getting your calories right first though.

Drink at least 2 litres of water a day - 3 to 4 if you can manage it (I used to be able to drink 4, now I'm bloody useless with it!)

Re: one meal, I found I was always too busy in mornings to eat anything, only had free time at lunch when my kids napped. It made sense to eat then. Once I started drinking loads of water, I didn’t have any appetite for dinner. I think I just ended up conditioning my body to do this. That said, I rarely go out now but if I did, I’d definitely have dinner. It’s basically like 16/8 except I don’t really eat that much.

Georgie low carb meals are things like:
chicken breast and salad or lots of veg.
Bacon, egg, mushrooms, baked beans and I slice of whole meal bread.
It probably would be easier for you to Google low carb meals.
You'll fine loads.
Good luck with your weight loss!
Make sure you're hungry for at least an hour before you eat.

Just for balance. I didn’t do low carb. I just kept an eye on my portion sizes and logged everything. I googled meals under 500 calories and built up a bank of delicious meals for dinner. For breakfast I have one of those variety boxes of cerea or scrambled eggs or fruit and yoghurt or porridge. Then lunch is a salad or a ready meal type thing. Snack is fruit or even a packet of crisps. Just recently I have plateaud, so have done my first low carb week. It has helped to get me going again but I couldn’t stick to it long term.

I am literally doing the same. Except I have to leave for work at 0515 so I weighed this evening. Not good. Not good at all. Good luck OP

I can’t be arsed with logging everything on MFP but I’ve found it really easy to cut carbs...so, poached eggs and spinach or yoghurt and fruit for breakfast (although I do have porridge as well as oats seem ok), salad with some protein for lunch, and whatever everyone else is having just with loads of veg or salad rather than the carbs for dinner - so fajitas without the wraps, roast dinner without the potatoes, chilli with salad rather than rice. I’ve still had the odd treat and a drink at the weekend and lost a stone since easter.

There are lots of ways. It's a question of picking the one which sounds least awful and most doable!

Starting weight is 248lb. We’re going on holiday in 6 weeks and I’d like to lose 2 stone.

I’ve had 2 weetabix with a banana instead of 3 with sugar.
I’ve drink tea and water instead of coke and Fanta.
I’ve had an apple with peanut butter instead of a sandwich, bag of crisps and a choc bar.

God I would be starving from just 1 meal. I've lost nearly 4.5 stone since last September. I am currently low carb but that's just the last 10 weeks. Before that I reduced carbs a lot and just ate healthily.
