Hi all-
I have been set a challenge by my doctors to loose 40kg in 16 weeks.
Looking for help advice and tips please!
Currently 95kg and 5ft 3
I work in an office part the week and rest of the time outside at a plant nursery- fairly good at exercise- we always clock up 10miles plus at a weekend and enjoy gardening ext.

Any tips on how I can go about my challenge would be great as I have been given no information to work with from docs.

Hi there
I am 78.3kg and 5ft 3
2 weeks ago 8 was 79. My target for ow is 73 in 5 weeks.
40kg is quite a bit.
I am using my fitness pal app and I think it's brilliant.
Put I all your current stats and where e u want to get to . How much a week u want to lose.
In the diary section you fill out your meals and exercise.
Currently I am on 1,630 cals a day and for that I get quite a bit of food.
And if I put in all my walking gardening and house work which can some days be 350 cals or more then I'm doing great.
I like to see what I'm doing. Sure I can cheat but I know it and sometimes if I have a slip it isn't Ll that bad when it's offset against other sensible stuff.

My cholesterol is up even though I don't drink and stopped smoking. That is motivation. The doctors gave out to me. I am on HRT and the middle aged weight issues are bothering me. I amnt going to win slimmer of the year but I can be better than what is go7ng on right now.

Are you sure it wasn't 40lbs? 2.5 kg per week seems a heck of a lot.

I think he's set you a challenge which is probably not actually achievable.
40kg is just over 6 stone but let's say 6 stone.
That's 84pounds.
That's over 5pounds to lose per week.
Normally people lose 1 -2 pounds.

Yes, I am shocked a medical professional would encourage you to lose so much eight so quickly. The slower you lose the more likely you will be to maintain. That rate of loss is not healthy, you need to adjust downwards gradually, reset calorie goals for every 10lbs you lose. Are you sure this person was a doctor of medicine???

I think there's a mistake here. No doctor would challenge you to lose 40kg in 16 weeks. Usually half a kg a week is achievable and sustainable without healthy lifestyle changes, even people on WW and other programmes would usually only make up to 1kg a week over long periods (and as that is more dramatic, often leads to a bit of a rebound at the end).

40lb would be 18kg which is still at the high end but given that your current weight is classified as obese should be achievable if you are committed to making underlying changes to your eating and activity. Good luck!

Your doctor is a twat. He's setting you up to lose.
20kg in 16 weeks is very ambitious let alone 40kg!

Drastic weight loss really youre looking at very low calorie diet of 800 to 500kcals per day, atkins induction, water fasting...

Also you will end up with loose skin.

5lb a week is not a sensible goal, most people lose 4 or 5 lb the first week and then 1 or 2 if they’re lucky.

I was pretty much the same weight as you in jan and have lost almost 4 stone since then. Everyone is telling me I’ve lost it quickly but even that was only 2 lb most weeks.

@BarbaraOcumbungles well done :)
Yes it might be too much but I'm going to have a really good bash at it and see how I get on/
I know some weeks I will fail and other I will succeed so we shall see.
I have just spoken to my best friend whos a dietician and she has said much the same as you all have and has made some suggestions - she will be keeping an eye on me so fingers crossed!

Erm, the sums don't add up...if you look at the calorie deficit needed to get that rate of loss, it doesn't add up.

It's an impossible target, however, it depends on the reason to lose. You could give it a very good go with an excessively low calorie intake but that has disbenefits too. It all depends...

Haha your doctor is crazy...I haven't even lousy that in 16 weeks with weight loss surgery... even with extreme drastic measures like surgery they only say you can loose 3-6kg a month. So at most 24kgs... more realistically 12

your doctor is a jerk
