Obese and pregnant- supportive thread to be healthier during pregnancy

I’m 5 weeks pregnant and very obese. I’m hoping to increase my activity levels and decrease my food intake. I’m seeing my GP in around 10 days to get a better idea of what I can do regarding my weight until the baby arrives.

Would anyone else like to join me?

not in the same boat but wanted to send you my best wishes for a happy and healthy pregnancy. my best friend fell pregnant at 40 despite being told by everyone that she wouldnt. went on to have a textbook pregnancy and delivery.

Can I join? I have had eating disorders for the best part of 20 years. Over the last 3 years, I had found ways to control my binge eating and my weight was back at the top of the normal range.
Then, in December, I learnt that my unborn baby was not going to survive. I gave birth in January at 18 weeks.
Binge eating has come back with a vengeance. I cannot stop eating. I am putting on 1-2lb a week. I am already back in the obese range.
I am 13 weeks pregnant and I am terrified I am going to hurt the baby, but I cannot stop.
I tried to tell the consultant about it, but she did not seem to realise the extent of what is happening (here in France, women tend to call "bingeing" eating two squares of chocolate instead of one).

Notburpeesagain yes please join me. That’s really disappointing you’re getting the support you need. Do they have services out side of the Obgyn

A few weeks ago I started seeing a psychologist again as my eat is out of control. She’s given me a few ideas and I’ll seeing her this week.

I’m not sure at this stage if I should try to lose some weight in first trimester or aim for no gain. I’ll talk thst through with the GP next week.

In the mean time I’m adding a 15 minute walk each week day plus 5 minutes hoopla hooping and a fitness Marshall dance video everyday. I’m aim yo get in two lap/aqua sessions each week.

For food I’m aiming for 3 proper meals a day and trying to limit snacks. I’m also recording everything in Fitbit. Aim for between 1800-2000 calories a day.

And I’m also trying to do a meditation session each day with the mind the bump up.

Hi there! I have not binged for four days, which is a huge victory (I don't think I had spent more than 30 minutes without eating something for months).

However, I also had a good look at myself in the mirror for the first time since the beginning of the year, and I cried. I am extremely good at avoiding my own reflection when my eating is out of control, but it makes it even harder to face reality. I find myself disgusting. The rolls of fats that had taken years of fitness training and controlled eating to get rid of are back. I cannot bear to look at my arms.

Normally I would go on a very low calorie diet (homemade food only, no shakes or anything like that) for a couple of weeks, but I am afraid it is not safe during pregnancy.

Are you managing to keep up with your exercise plan? At 5 weeks I usually feel awful.
