Can't believe how much weight I've put on since meeting DP :(

Just weighed myself. I feel sick. Almost a stone and half. Two dress sizes. I know it doesn't sound like much but I'm only 5ft so everything shows. I've never been this big apart from when I was heavily pregnant. And I'm fucking getting married and going on honeymoon in three months!!

My downfall is takeaways - we've just had FOUR in a row (large cheesy chips, burger, free garlic bread) and alcohol. I drink just about every night. I don't really snack or eat kids' leftovers.

I was so slim with my ex husband (but also unhappy and extremely anxious). I'm very content with my fiancé but this has reflected on my weight.

About a week ago I started eating healthy flake cereal for breakfast, tuna sandwich with no butter for lunch, but then it does downhill in the evenings. I have four children and food is my treat, my comfort, something I look forward to.

Please help :(

I’m in the same position with the food as treat frame of mind- I can be good all day then at night it all falls apart. Plus I’m doing no exercise.
I’ve put on 1.5 stone since Dec :(
I’ve got a wardrobe full of lovely clothes I can’t fit into.
I need a kick up the arse op- good on you for getting started though wish I could too!

I hear you wishful. My old clothes are in the loft! I read in the evenings, talk to DP, Mumsnet, watch TV... But nothing compares with food!

You both can drop weight and you’ve both admit that it’s the takeaway and alcohol. A friend of mine did dry January and lost almost two stones that month.

Cut down the treats to say a Saturday night take away see how it goes get the kids out in the fresh air perhaps. You both can do this just takes a bit of grit and determination.

I am 4'11" and I gained 3 stone since having a baby with my DH because I just ate like a pig! I ate like one when I met my DH and we had our DS. I joined Slimming World and have never looked back! A lifestyle change is all we need to feel good about ourselves again. You've obviously gotten too comfortable and that's absolutely fine! There's nothing wrong with that but if you really want to change, then that's enough to give you the willpower to do something

I’m drinking a couple of beers every night too definitely the alcohol makes me think sod it and then my portion control goes out the window 👎

Use my fitness pal in the week then allow yourself a small takeaway and a drink 1 day on the weekend

Why don't you join th low carb boot camp that's currently just started? You will lose that weight in no time.

Either way though, you know that eating takeaways and drinking every night will make you gain weight, it's also not healthy and is an expensive way to eat.

So as a minimum you need to start meal planning and cut those out.

I hear you hunni. I’m putting on so much this past while. I’m getting into the cooking in the evening im doing it as a hobby/something to do after work and the bonus is healthy food n no takeaways.
For example last night I did one of the body coaches no carb meals lamb chops peas and paprika cauliflower so easy just bang it in the oven n was soooo tasty n filling Smile I honestly didn’t even feel like there was no carbs. I think preparation is the key. I did my food shopping Saturday and loosely planned my meals I had plenty to choose from when I came home.
If there was nothing in the fridge I would have just got takeout instead of going to the supermarket.
It’s hard at times I’m at the stage where I sickened myself with takeaways I felt sick after the last one so I said sod this I don’t want this feeling every time I eat.
Exercise is the tough one now and I used to be the opposite.

Yeh we definitely eat like pigs. Spoke to DP and he wants to change too so that's good. He's not a fussy eater. I've bought ingredients for a butternut squash curry tonight.

BUT.

It's just the kids... I certainly don't want to be making multiple meals a day but they are NOT going to like these healthy dinners, especially the one with ASD!

How do people eat healthily with kids?!

I eat the same foods as the kids but less of them. If they're having burger and chips I'll have burger and salad or half a plate of vegetables.

Also , if we have pasta it's always weighed. About 60gm of dry pasta per person is enough.

What sort of things are the kids eating and how old are they?

I have 3 kids with ASD.... Had 7 stone to loose.... Joined SW 2 weeks ago have lost 12lb already.

1 Ds is very very underweight...(his ADHD meds) so we have tons of very high calorie easy to eat snacks and Ben and Jerry's ice cream tubs in the house. Dd is a bit overweight and ds2 has a very very limited diet.

Food in general is a huge flashpoint in my house :(

I don't open the snack drawer/box/ freezer
I have stopped all drink that isn't water or tea use to drink at least a litre of fat coke a day and mainly eat protein and veg/salad.
It does mean I am usually cooking 4 different meals every evening but I am fed up of being fat so it's worth it.

When the kids get a takeaway all will eat a dominos personal cheese pizza only fucking dominos not a frozen cheep one I get a subway chicken or steak salad which feels like a treat as I haven't had to make it iykwim

There is lots of lovely recipes on sw but it seems quite pointless to cook just for me.

Good luck

I have stopped eating grains for health reasons and the weight has just fallen off without me even trying. Having said that, I have also stopped drinking alcohol.

I think it just be the alcohol. I've never weighed this much and I've never drank this much.

When we have a takeaway (kids in bed), they kids eat something easy like pizza or chicken nuggets.

Other nights is just normal things like roast dinner, pasta, sausage casserole etc. Except me and DP have HUGE portions.

It won't just be the booze but that will be contributing. You're eating a lot of fatty food and too much for your height.

Things like roast dinners, pasta etc can all be healthy as long as you don't smother in cheese etc, and if the kids eat these then it's one meal for the whole family.

It seems you've fallen into the habit of convenience eating, and although things like chicken nuggets and pizza are fine for kids, they don't contain much nutrional value and shouldn't really be a staple. That and your takeaways aren't doing any of you any favours really.

Cutting rhe booze will have a small impact but if you keep eating too much of the wrong stuff you'll just continue to gain weight.

I agree with Bluntness, but also check your portion sizes as you have said yourself, they're huge.

You can enjoy a roast dinner but go east on the roasted potatoes and have loads of chicken and veg. Spag bol is another one that's okay but as bluntness said , easy on the cheese , watch your pasta intake and use low fat beef. I would even go as far as saying that pizza is fine as long as it's thin (pizza express style) and you have a huge salad with it rather than garlic bread.

Oh and also , don't fall into the trap of eating the same amount as your dp. Chances are he's taller and needs more calories to function. I would serve yourself half the amount he has to be honest.

Cut the alcohol for a start off. Takeaway once a week. Eat the same dinners but less - make more veg and sweet potato mash /roasted butternut squash to fill you up. Sausage casserole should be one sausage, pile of veg, splodge of mash. Have a hard boiled egg as a snack if you're hungry between meals.

I hear you. I was a size 8 when I met dh. I've put on 2 stone and more since meeting him, he's put on around 5 stone. I feel sick. We've had one Dc but the weight came before and after due to binge eating shite. Weekly sometimes even daily takeaways. Then there was that day we had mcdonalds breakfast, Greggs lunch and got a pizza hut takeaway for dinner. I can eat my way through a packet of biscuits in minutes. My downfall is I'm greedy. I think it started at home when my siblings and I had to fight for food between ourselves or it'd be gone in seconds. I also used to dance weekly but haven't in years. We dont drink either anyway so no losing it there.

I've since started C25K and from tomorrow I'm quitting sugar. That's the reason for my cake shelf!

Eating healthily with the kids IS an.option, even with fussy eaters.

So cook the butternut squash curry, also do a plain chicken curry. Cook rice and salad (or just some chopped up carrot/cucumber/peppers)

Yes you cook 2 curries then, but you can eat them for 2 days.

You can do slight modifications/options.

Takeaways are soooo unhealthy, you're better off cooking at home (even if you add cheese/butter/cream to your cooking!)

Oh good d I could have written that myself, after nearly 3 years I’ve put on 3 stone, im just over 5’ too so it really shows, im a size 16 now and was a 10 when I met my dp. I’m really happy with the exception of when I look in the mirror.

I’ve just started doing the 5:2 diet which seems to suit the lifestyle I now have

Ok so we've started cooking Slimming World meals. Beef Ragu and spaghetti tonight. Also stopping drinking apart from on Saturdays. The kids won't like most of these healthy meals (barely at last night) but it is what it is
