Fed up with the BMI thing

I've lost just over 3 stone, am in size 10 clothing, 5ft 2inch. I'm considered overweight on the BMI scale but I don't want to be much smaller. My practice nurse says ignore the BMI.

Ive been trying to work my 'true weight on the dukan website calculator. I've been trying for 2 days now and it's not working. Any other way of working it out?? Or how do any of you see where you need to be on the scales?

I'm interested for health reasons rather than fitting into minni skinnies. Just interested to see what others do. Ta.

The BMI is a population level measurement. It will work for some, but not others. It doesn't take in muscle mass or frame size.

If your nurse says you're fine, and you feel fine, you're fine.

For what it's worth, I'm generally my healthiest at about a stone overweight.

Thanks Hulks. I've not got big muscle mass and have small frame. Just want to be a sustainable weight for health really.

I don't weigh myself or do bmi. I know my weight because my doctor checks it every three months when I see her. It only changes by a pound or two, usually because of what meds I am on. As my prednisone dose goes up, so does my weight. I developed Hasimoto's during a year of high dose treatments.
Switching to a lower dose and adding methotrexate, the weight came off and then a bit more.
Day to day it doesn't really matter if I know what it is or not, as long as everything fits.

BMI was devised in the 1800s by a statistician, not a medical professional.
If you feel happy and healthy at the size you’ve achieved I wouldn’t worry about it.

Throw away your scales. it affects your mental health to be so aware and worried about your weight all the time. Judge your weight by your size... use your clothes and how you feel to decide if you are a healthy weight.

if you can exercise, walk and run and your appetite is normal, then you really have nothing to worry about. Check things like blood pressure and blood sugars regularly but don't use your weight as a measure of anything.

BMI has been reviewed by countless medical professionals and research scientists, and it is a good screening technique, as is the waist:height ratio (your waist shouid be half your height or less).

They are not diagnostic in themselves, and there always will be some outliers. Ignore those who say that as they are not perfect, they must be useless. They are a good indicator, and if you are in the overweight or obese categories, it is worth looking at why and what you need to do about it. As your individual circumstances have been checked by an HCZp, the answer for you could well be 'nothing'

BMI has been reviewed by countless medical professionals and research scientists,

And has been found to be incredibly flawed and inaccurate.

It's a good indicator if you don't have the slightest understanding of statistics.

It is true that there is considerably more internet noise about those who seek to discredit BMI.

BMI is indeed a very old, and inaccurate , measure of body fat and body health. It is still used my medical professionals as it is quick and simple to calculate, and it does give a rough guide. But I would advise you don't pay too much heed to it!!
I am 5 ft 3 inches. Apparently my "healthy" BMI range is 7 stone 8 to 10 stone 3. When I was 9 stone I was a very healthy size 8. I would have made myself unwell trying to weigh less than that. I can only imagine that at 7 stone 8 I would have not been healthy at all!! Currently I am overweight. I am aiming to get to around 10 stone this time as I believe at that weight I will be healthy and able to comfortably maintain that weight. So I will be at the upper end of "healthy" BMI, and may stary into overweight, but I feel at that weight I will be healthy for me!!
