I'm very overweight and carry most of it in a massive spare tyre round hips and lower abdomen. Is there anything I can do to make a different to this hideous fat in a very short space of time? I'm due on holiday in 10 days and can't fit into any of my holiday clothes and can't afford to buy new.

I'm desperately unhappy, my DH no longer finds me attractive because of my massive tum, it's a holiday of a lifetime and I'm going to be hiding under a beach towel the whole time.

Please help. Can exercise make a difference in such a short time? Any drastic recommendations for losing this hideousness?

Thanks

Not in ten days I'm afraid. Not healthy.
Join a diet club and start planning for next years holiday instead.
Find flattering swimwear eg those with a skirt

Cut carbs out as much as possible, cut out alcohol, drink plenty of water, fill up on protein and do some exercise. It won’t work miracles but it will help

Of course you can't. You didn't put the weight on in 10 days so it's not going to come off in that amount of time.

What you CAN do is start to make a long-term plan on how to improve your eating habits and lose the weight slowly and carefully in a way that will be sustainable for the rest of your life. There is plenty of support here and elsewhere on how to do that.

And with the imminent holiday of a lifetime - in my experience, absolutely no one remotely cares what anyone else looks like on holiday. Women of all shapes and sizes wear whatever they like and that is a very good thing. I guarantee no one will be looking at you.

Buy a few cheap bits and pieces you're happy to wear (I don't think you need ever spend loads of holiday clothes), have a fabulous holiday and then come home and start to deal with your weight in the longer term.

Similar problem here. Six stone overweight, holiday in 2 week.

I am eating yogurt, meat & salad, fish & veg until I go.
I've stopped drinking alcohol/soft drinks & am sticking to water.
I'm hoping this helps with the bloating somewhat.

I have bought 2 skirted swimsuits & 2 tankini sets for sunbathing(from a catalogue).
I have bought several maxi dresses from charity shops for days out/ nights out/ coverups for only a couple of pounds each.
Not spent much, as I intend to get rid of them after summer, but at least I will have something that fits appropriately & doesn't stick to me.

I've downloaded a couple of diet books/ self esteem guides & will devour them by the pool (rather than the local cuisine).

While I am on holiday, I will be deciding what to change when I get home to make these changes stick. Priority will be dressing for comfort & to stay cooler, food wise I'll be trying to stop with the industrial sized packs of treats, cakes & biscuits I currently inhale.

Long term, I want to find myself again.
I've got lost somewhere along the way.

Thanks for responses. Of course I do know I'm not going to lose it all. I too have lost my way. I do know what I need to do. I know about diet and exercise or rather eating and training and I don't do it. I joined a group that seemed so motivational but I can't bring myself to go. I'm sure it would be fab if I could dare to go. I really am my own worse enemy 😢

I have an event in 20 days which I'm trying to lose a bit of weight for. Shall we do it together?

I find cutting right back on carbs helps - eggs for breakfast, salad and protein for lunch and a low carb dinner!

Why don't you post your menu plan for tomorrow?

Another thing to do for weight loss (I know this works fast btw and it is healthy!!!!) if you OD on teas and coffees and or fizzy caffeinated drinks (even without sugar) is cut right down on them esp. first thing in the morning . Drink green tea and mint for the flavour to help with the caffiene withdrawal headaches, and. plenty of water by your bed.

Thanks twinkledag any support most welcome!

I usually have one latte a day but have cut this out. No alcohol.

I can't decide whether to low carb (white meat and green veg for a week a la Bodyism Clean & Lean) or Cambridge (I have packs from an earlier failed attempt) or that grapefruit and boiled egg James Duncan one week diet - which would be most effective?

I do know I should have done it sensibly and slowly over the past year or so, but I've failed at that miserably and now I am where I am and at the point of cancelling my holiday because I'm so hideous. I do know I should have done better and I'm struggling enough with the failure so far

Low carb!

My menu today hasn't been great but I can pull it back with a light dinner and exercise this evening.

I've had -

Porridge with semi skimmed milk - breakfast
Big salad with chicken and mixed beans - lunch

Both good 👍

I snack so much it's ridiculous! I've had -
A tablespoon of Greek yoghurt and mashed raspberries
2 biscuits
A sliver of focaccia and a tiny square of chocolate pastry that was in the staff room.

I'll do 30 mins of exercise tonight and prob have scrambled eggs for dinner to balance it out!

What have you eaten?

Op we all have been on the same boat . I would I think if highly motivated go low carb . Cut out bread pasta rice potatoes and of course biscuits etc . You know the drilll . High protein and lots of leafy green veg and salads . Lots of water and some walking . It will be hard .

Also do as another poster suggested and hit the charity shops for some maxi dresses and get a good swimsuit and a sarong I find fantastic !

Please try enjoy the holiday as life is precious.

Thanks all. Failed again today having driven 200 miles, petrol stations don't sell low carb. So a sandwich and a latte to keep me awake and tonight piece of chicken and green veg

Use this feeling to fire your future plans, vow to never feel this way again! Worked for me although my ‘moment’ was seeing my wedding pictures Blush

Def low carb - I have decided 6 stone in enough is enough. I do not want to be going on holiday this summer feeling like this (again). I have been low carbing for a week and have lost 8llbs. You’ll feel better about yourself if nothing else.

Re petrol stations - I drive a good 500 miles every week and you need to either take lunch (you have to be strict) or find m&s services where you can get protein pots, chicken etc. Same for Waitrose at services.

That's not bad, what's today's menu?

I've had an omelette and 3 tbsp of baked beans. Also a scotch pancake (toddlers leftovers!) and a pear and some strawberries.

Our for lunch but will choose salad.

Chicken and veg for dinner.

twinkle another quick way to lose a few pounds is to NOT mix carbs and protein at the same meal. So yes chicken and veg. but no potatoes and bread, fill up on veg.

Then I don't reckon there's anything wrong with whole rice with salad\veg but not with protein!

Ok so weekends are rubbish. I work away from home during the week then home to good food and wine for the weekend.

So today with one week to go before my holiday i have chicken and green veg/salad all week. And no wine until Saturday (at a wedding)

Not eating for the week is going to be your best bet. Just drink water an black coffee (no sugar). You'll probably lose quite a bit of weight (predominantly water weight) and it would be a good way to "reset"

Yikes Shock Baked Think of her disgusting coffee breath!!!!

Fruit juice would be a much better fast, at least she wouldn't have terrible caffeine withdrawal headaches when she went off it or coffee breath!

I sympathise OP. Your posts sound desperate. Why not join the mumsnet low carb bootcamp, it starts on Monday,so plenty of time to plan.

The thing that stands out to me are the posts saying "wine at a wedding" - don't drink then either. "a sliver of focaccia" "a tiny piece of chocolate pastry" don't eat ANY of this if you are seriously low carbing. It's fine to go hungry if you can't find anything suitable to eat.
