Crunchy salty relatively low calorie snack?

pandarific · 01/04/2018 18:54

Not actively trying to lose weight, but am in first trimester of pregnancy and trying not to put on lots of weight.

I want SALT and crunchy things. Anyone? I want tuc crackers, salt and vinegar crisps and salted nuts... but is there anything better I’m overlooking?

Popcorn yes (I have an air popper), but anything else relatively healthy?

Matzo with cottage cheese? Dull, I know. French bread toasted in slices with a sprinkle of Parmesan?

I've been living off Hula Hoop Puft crisps, 72 calories a bag, for my salty crunchy cravings

Make your own microwave crisps
Cut very thin slices of potato with a potato peeler or mandolin, spray a microwave dinner plate with oil spray and lay a layer of slices not over lapping. Spray again with the oil.
Microwave for around 3 mins, then in 30 sec bursts until just starting to brown. Remove from plate while still hot they will be slightly soft but crisp up on cooling. Sprinkle with salt or spices.
You can also do this with tortillas to make tortilla chips. Just cut them up and microwave as before but only for 1min then flip over and repeat until very lightly browned do not over cook.

My go to is the flaming hot cheetos. Small bags (13g) because they are puffed, 69cal.

They aren't great in terms of fat but as a one a day treat to stop me eating a whole tube of Pringles I'm happy with them.

My Mexican friend eats a lot of cucumber slices drizzled in lime juice with salt. It's actually quite nice but not something i'd eat without her.

Vegetable crisps? Same calories as normal crisps but I recon they taste better.

I love home made kale crisps- good recipe on bbc good food.

Hulu Hoops? Off the top of my head they're the saltiest thing I can think of? The bags are pretty small so not too many calories/fat.

Pringles? Also one of the saltiest things I can think of.

Salt and vinegar snack a jacks if they still exist. They did wonders for my salt craving and the vinegar helped take the edge off my nausea too. (I also put vinegar on my toast and ate my body weight in Haribo Tangfastic for the same reason but that's another story.)
