Is 10 minutes a day enough

Just wondered if anyone knows whether 10/15 minutes of fairly intense exercise each day will be enough to lose weight or at least tone up.
Finding it impossible to fit in exercise at the minute. When DD does nap I'm running round trying to the clean house, make meals, shower etc. The only way I feel I could do it was to exercise every day but just for 10 minutes before my shower. Has anyone else found this has or hasn't worked?
I am not really overweight and have lost a lot of my baby weight. I think from a mixture of bf and luck. I am now about a 12 (use to be a 10/12). However I feel a lot more 'wobbly' and I am going on holiday in a couple of month so would really like to feel more confident. Sorry I know this is a silly first world problem sad

Ok, the truth is - no. Not really. If you want to make a difference then really half hour of intense exercise a day is a good start.

10 minutes? Well it’s better than nothing I suppose but it’s not going to reap tangible results.

Weight loss is 80% diet, 20% exercise so if you’re managing what you’re eating that will make the biggest difference.

I think the OP more interested in toning than weight loss

Toning is most definitely exercise. Weights with a bit of cardio.

Could you bump that up to 20 mins? How about HIIT workouts? They’re generally 15/20 mins. You can find them on you tube.

Start small and when you've got time then do more!

Thanks everyone I think I do need to do abit more and definitely need to improve my diet. I'm abit annoyed at myself because I ate so well during pregnancy but since having DD I've developed an afternoon biscuit habit confused
I did plan to go out for long walks with DD but the Great British weather often stops that.
Will try to increase it to 20 minutes and am hoping to start swimming again even if it's just once a week when DH is off work.
Toning up is what I want to do as a minimum but really would like to lose half a stone grin

10 minutes a day is better than nothing. You could do 10 mins weights to tone up. If you could do 2 or more bouts of 10 mins, several times a week, you would see a difference.

Try 10 minute sets.
10 burpees/10 jump squats/10 pushups/10 sit ups and repeat the set as many times as you can in 10 minutes.

That will get your heart rate up high and add in the resistance training and you'll start toning fairly quickly. This won't necessarily cut weight but will help with tone and cardio health, until you can find a bit more time.

10 minutes is really not enough, but 20 could be for sure if you can manage that.

Like PPs have said HIIT exercises are centered around intense exercise for short bursts like that. I've been doing Beachbody workouts for years now and got into them for the same reasons your describing. I couldn't find time to get to the gym anymore and needed something I could fit into my packed days. If you want to try a few things out Beachbody has a free trial that lasts for two weeks and let's you check out pretty much all of their workouts:

Now that my kids are older I get up in the morning before the rest of the family and do something on BOD before getting the kids up for school.

Hi new mum, in answer to your question no I don't think it's enough to be honest (I'm a women's personal trainer) but there are other ways that you can fit in exercise and changes to your diet that might work better with your lifestyle. 10 minutes a day is fine, as long as you are increasing your heart rate. I do a mix of HIIT and core work. (Lost 2 inches of my waist in 7 weeks). Got the same results a few years back from doing 2 X 60 minutes boot camp, but took 12 weeks to lose the 2 inches.

Watched a programme the other week, that showed 10 minutes of very intense exercise a day has the same benefits as 30 minutes in the gym X 3 a week.

Also showed the same benefits doing 10,000 steps a day and doing 2 lots of fast paced walking a day - 3 times a week.
