Will I still go into ketosis if I continue to drink tea with milk?

I’m trying to do Exante which says no tea with milk. But I really really can’t cope without a cup of strong tea each day. I’ve heard that milk can stop you entering ketosis which obv then defeats the object of half starving myself and drinking the disgusting shakes. Just wondered if anyone knew about this. Can you usually have tea with a tiny amount of skimmed milk on a VLCD and still trigger ketosis? Thanks

Drink whole milk. It has less carbs. I've been low carb since last July and lost 3 stone. Good luck

Try the ketostix to find out?

Just drink it black but weaker than you’d usually have it.

half starving myself and drinking the disgusting shakes.

Sounds delightful Confused WHY?

Thanks everyone. I’ve tried black tea but just can’t stomach it. Apparently, the hunger will ease by day 4 but I’m only day 2 and feel starving and faint. Living on 600 cal a day needs to be worth it and if I’m not going to go into ketosis and therefore start burning actual stores fat then I may as well do a 1200 cal a day low carb diet.

Does anyone know if a few ml of milk a day would prevent ketosis?

I drink several white teas using whole milk daily when low carbing. My ketosis strips Show second from strongest reading positive for ketosis

It depends on how many carbs there are in your milk over the course of a day. I have to be under 20g carbs a day to get into ketosis. I use unsweetened almond milk in my tea (needs a bit more than cows milk to get a similar whitening effect, but takes the harshness that you get with black tea away) and that is carb-free. HTH.

Then put milk in your tea and enjoy your life!

Go eat some food and stop being ridiculous.

Thanks but I’ve looked into it carefully and my metabolism is shot from years of yo yo dieting and binge eating. I am addicted to sugar and carbs and my blood sugar is spikey as a result. From what I’ve read, a few wks on a VLCD such as Exante forcing your body into ketosis can help reset everything. It’s not a long term solution but if I can make it work for 4wks then move onto low carb as advised on the research I read then I think I can get myself in control of my eating habits long term.

You are starving and feeling faint, does that not concern you?

Report
LongChalk · 09/02/2018 19:33

I’m not too concerned as the info said to expect this and that it improves dramatically by day 3 or 4.

Surely how you feel NOW is important!

What on earth goes through your mind OP when you would sit starving and feeling faint, rather than just eat something?

That's a really unhealthy way to get healthy Confused

Bloody hell. Have a cup of tea, an egg salad and get to the gym.

What's wrong with losing weight the healthy way, with some hard work and a sensible amount of calorie restriction?

Sorry to sound rude, but you said you've yo-yod all your life, how is this any different?

some of the replies are bloody rude!
Op hasn't asked advice on what you think of her diet plan, read the question and answer it if you have it!

Op I think full fat milk or a little cream would be better in your tea.

Stick with it, the blood sugar diet is similar, VLC and can either be with food or meal replacement shakes, check carb content and hopefully others who are less patronising and more helpful will be along soon.

You genuinely think it's rude to suggest to people that they don't starve themselves to the point of feeling faint Hmm

Yes I do, I also think it's rude to tell someone to stop being ridiculous, funny enough I've never heard of anyone starving to death using meal replacements.

I'm sure the op finds all of your posts very helpful. Hmm

I suggested the OP, who is 'starving and feeling faint', eats some food.

Seems rather logical to me

I see your one of those posters who love to give an opinion but no actual advise, maybe pop over to AIBU where you might be more "comfortable" Wink

But I did give advice, I advised the starving OP to eat.

You can have 150ml of skinned milk on skin and save.

I can have 3 or 4 cups of tea/coffee on any low carb diet and still get into ketosis. Good luck OP

Thank you to those who have offered good advice. I’m actually feeling far better today and not at all hungry which is a massive shift change for me. I POAS (never thought I’d say that again Grin) and the ketosis indicator shows a lot darker and closer to ketosis so think I’m heading in the right direction. Thank you

Hi LongChalk I’m doing Exante for the same reasons as you and today is day three for me. I’m having a little milk in my tea, as I know you can on other vlcds, but I’m only having a cup first thing and sometimes one at night. I’ve bought some Dr Pepper zero which I’d normally hate but am now looking forward to - they say you can have one can a day.
