Can I do this? Will it work?

I’m currently doing a VLCD due to being very obese (starting weight 18st). It’s going well and I’m looking ahead to what I will do when I’ve lost the bulk and just looking to tweak and maintain. I like the idea of the 5:2.

Could I continue the VLCD on the 2 days and eat normally (but healthy) on the other 5?

Do you think that would work?

Thank you.

In order to lose weight on the 5:2 your other 5 days need to be less calories than your TDEE.

You can calculate that on the 5:2 website at the link below.
thefastdiet.co.uk/how-many-calories-on-a-non-fast-day/

If you are very obese then your "normal" intake would probably still be too many calories. (so sorry to sound so harsh I know where you are coming from I have lost nearly 6st in the last year and a half starting weight of 15.4 and I am not tall)

Work out what your TDEE is, and do some meal planning around that.

Best of luck Flowers and if you need support feel free to join us on the slenderistas thread, we are a very friendly bunch!

Thank you. Just had a look and it makes sense, I think I can stay under that amount! It’s very generous.

I should say that it will change as you lose weight,
Was originally about 2000cals to maintain and now I am only on 1600cals to maintain as there is obviously less of me to provide energy for, so once you are closer to goal check it again to see what you should be at.

Hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck it is a hard road Flowers

Thank you very much for the good wishes. I really appreciate it. I’m in it for the long haul and we’ll aware that it’s not easy. Neither is being fat though!
