Would introducing fish into a vegetarian diet aid weight loss?

I have excluded fish and meat from my diet since my teens, also exclude eggs, but do eat cheese.

Approaching 50, and the weight is piling on and nothing I do seems to shift it. I am wondering if eating fish will help reduce my carb intake, but also keep me feeling satisfied for longer? Can't contemplate meat yet.

Fish and eggs both help satiety but so do lentils, whole grains, and salad.

I struggle with this too. The lean protein that forms the basis of a lot of weight loss plans is chicken and fish. I toy with reintroducing fish from time to time.

Lentils and tuna, for example are similar in calories, I just wonder if I had tuna salad it would be more filling than lentil soup and salad.

I also worry about nutrition, especially when dieting. Not convinced that seeds offer the best source of omega.

I'd add in eggs before fish, just based on the cost vs calories vs satiety. Eggs lie so heavily in ones' stomach compared to pulses you'll notice a significant difference I think.

Eggs make me shudder. I wonder how I could make them less eggy?Grin

Blend them into anything: you can just beat them into a sauce and you won't even know they are there except you feel fuller for longer.
Actually I'm talking out of my hat because I have no idea what it's like to not like them so I could honestly eat them every day....if I had to give up meat (lifelong omnivore with pointy canine teeth) I could as long as I could keep eggs and cheese.
So based on the fact that I'm not the best taster of eggs...they just taste delicious to me.....Yorkshire pudding, Chinese egg drop soup, anything soufflé or baked fluffy....if you don't like them then it makes it tricky because 'hidden egg' things tend to be carby, whereas a boiled egg is about 100 cals and would keep me going for 3-4 hours...but is necessitously eggy Grin

I went back to eating fish once or twice a week. I have tinned mackerel , mainly for the omega 3 , but it's nice to know I'm getting a decent portion of protein for not many calories. I like mackerel with a salad and a few new potatoes, makes a filling meal.
The other fish I like is fish fingers, just done in the oven with peas and wedges.
I've lost a couple of stones over the last year or so.

I've been having the same debate. My compromise finally was to give up all dairy but add fish back in once or twice a week. Yet to see any results, but I feel better for it.

Oh, and I hate eggs too, so that wasn't happening...

@noeffingidea is mackerel a strong fishy flavour? I seem to remember liking tuna, so thought I might start with that.

Mackarel has got a sort of slightly meaty flavour. It does taste quite similar to tuna. I prefer the taste of mackarel.
Tinned tuna does not have high omega 3 oils for some reason, though fresh or frozen tuna steaks do. So that is something to consider if that is one of the reasons for eating it.

Yes eating fish could certainly help just make sure you eat plenty of fish high in Omega 3' s even if you do prefer white fish such as cod etc.
Being a vegetarian you also need to be careful that your Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids aren' t too out of whack as this too can be a factor in weight gain.
