Anyone else planning to start on 1st January?

I need to lose approximately 30lbs.

Yes, mostly because it seems a nice neat date to start upon.

I’ll be starting on 2 Jan as I’ve already bought a giant gammon for Monday’s dinner Grin

I’ve got 10 stone to lose Shock I’m going to do weightwatchers (online, not meetings) as that’s worked for me in the dim and distant past.

Yes am starting from the 1st and also doing dry January! I need results as I've been terrible xx

Yep. I've been mucking around trying to lose weight for about 7 years. I lost loads before my wedding 9 years ago then regained and more (usual story!). I turn 40 next year so from 1st Jan I have 42 weeks and 5 days to lose about 4 stone. I reckon that's doable Grin. 1.3 pounds a week or something.

Diets don't work
Training and nutrition works..... Smile

Um, diets DO work...
If you cut down your calories, you will lose weight. Obviously the more you cut the more you lose or the faster you lose.
Exercise speeds it up and can help reshape your body but you can lose weight by restricting what you eat and not exercising at all.

Titsywoo - I’m 40 next year too and planning on losing around 40lb.
Starting on the 2nd as we are travelling home tomorrow. Planning on calorie counting, half plate of veg for dinner and running.
Good luck everyone xx

Obviously "diets" don't work in the sense of eating 500 cal of veg for six months and then jumping straight back up to 2000 cal of cake as soon as you reach your target.

I'm sure I'm far from the only person who intends to make a permenant change every time I start though, I'm just rather deficient in long term willpower!

Report
userofthiswebsite · 31/12/2017 15:27

Well theoretically, that should work fine as if you go back up to the regular 2000 cals you should just maintain your new lower weight.

It'd only be an issue if you went down to 1000/1500 calories, got to your 'goal weight' and then started eating 3,000 cals a day as then your weight would go back up to where it was originally.

BeyondAssignation · 31/12/2017 15:30

Well depending on your metabolism of course, 2000cal would be too much for me

Have a read of rebelfit on FB. Or Richie Howell, he's quite good too

You set yourself up to fail on a diet. It will not work because your body tries desperately to find its 'set weight' again and you're almost powerless to stop this - it's a brain chemistry thing

So I'm with you on shedding the 10lbs I need to. But the way to go is by losing the diet mentality - look at the guys I've mentioned above

Yes, start tomorrow. About 2 stone to lose. I’m doing Dry January and Veganuary. Plus trying to do some exercise (compared to none at all at the moment).

Dry January and No Refined Sugar from the morning, plus back on the 5:2 wagon. I'm nearly 2 stone down and have another one to go.

I have 4 stone to lose. Also plan to do Veganuary and start getting up at 6 instead of 630/7 on normal workdays to fit a bit of exercise in.

Here are my goals:
Eat less crap
Move around more
Do a 10k by May

I’ve spent from 2015-now filling my face with sweets, cakes, pop, biscuits, crisps, chips. Two pregnancies hasn’t helped my waistline either but it’s the grub not the babies that’s given me an excess TEN KILOGRAMS to lose.

Using the “9 months on and 9 months off” rule I’m aiming to get to 68kg by mid-July.

I have to do it. I will do it.

Yes me. I have four/five stone to lose. I’m embarrassed by my weight and would like to feel good again. Here’s to a slender new year.

I’m also 40 this year. Lost some weight in 2017 but planning on hitting my goal at the beginning of this year. Doing RED (run every day) in January as well as a half marathon in March.

Will probably start on the 2nd as that’s when I’m back at work. Lots of exercise and calorie counting (1200 per day) works for me.

Well, I’ve done it. Signed up for weightwatchers. Going to spend today stuffing my face and menu planning as it all starts tomorrow. I’m doing it slightly differently as I’m going for a Tuesday weigh Day. Normally I like to do Friday, so that I can blow out over the weekend and have a few days to pull it back. By weighing in on Tuesday I’m hoping it’ll make me think twice over the weekends.

Is it Day One for many of you? Hope it’s going okay and not too much of a shock x

I’m starting today as I know if I leave it any later I just won’t get on board. I cannot be this fat this time next year.

Happy new year

I have been brave, I got on the scales. I weigh 11 stone 5lbs. All the Christmas chocolate has been eaten and the fridge is pretty empty. I forgot that the supermarket is shut today.
