The diet begins Boxing Day! Lose weight, stay happy

So after a really crap year where I had a severe depressive episode, I’ve ended up mentally much healthier but heavier due to my medication (mirtzapine). Oh, and my obscene addiction to sugar!! I’m finally in a place where I feel I can tackle my weight gain. Having braved the scales yesterday I weighed in at 10st 7lb - I was 9st in April, so quite a gain. I’m 5ft 3 and this gives me a BMI of 26 (so in the overweight category!)

Target weight is 8st 7lb so want to lose 2st. First mini goal is 10st by end of January.

I plan to follow a HFLC diet as this should help me tackle my sugar additiction once and for all. I have terrible problems with blood sugar and lots of people say this clears up on the diet. Am going to use India Knights idiot proof diet book after a recommendation here.

I can’t wait til next year so I have 4 more days to wallow in Christmas biscuits then Boxing Day will start my diet! We have a family meal out that day which could be interesting...I’m not planning to mention it in RL so will use this as a diary. Please feel free to post, join in, give support (flowers emojis rather than biscuits please or I may end up nibbling on my iPad) etc.

I am in. After an awful year in which my mum suffered a horrible illness then died I have put on about a stone (can't bring myself to go on the scales yet) but am about the same weight as you and was 9.5 stone in May. I also intend to start Boxing Day. I struggle with HFLC as don't like meat but plan to calorie count on MFP and do low fat. I work out a lot already which has kept me in not bad shape (weights really do change your body) but I can feel myself piling on the weight.

I'm going to do the Low Carb Bootcamp in January - I'm still trying to lose weight I gained following surgery last year. I'm currently 11 stone and target is 9 stone 7. Now I'm in my 40s I find weight comes off incredibly slowly and I can be stuck at a plateau for weeks - I miss the days when sticking strictly to a diet would reliably shed 2lb a week.

Oh can I join? I had some success with SW earlier this year but just really struggled to stick to plan and the last month or so have been awful so I think I've managed to put back on all the weight I lost.

Haven't been on the scales recently but think I'm around 11'6 ish and 5'7, aim is 10'6.

Had been going to the gym regularly but my local gym had gone through a revamp and all the good trainers left, most of the classes changed and I struggled to find classes I liked at times that suited.

After Christmas I'm aiming for 2 weight based sessions per week and one run ( I have a young dd, a horse that I share a couple of days a week so trying to be realistic), also going to start power walking for 25 minutes on my lunch break 2 days a week and start walking to and from the train station - not much but hopefully it will help.

Yay! I have some dieting buddies :). That’ll make it much easier to say no to booze come Boxing Day.

Duck - sorry to hear about your mum, not surprising you’ve had some weight gain. Have been looking at photos of women who do weights on insta and they look amazing! I wouldn’t even know where to start.

Screaming - welcome, I’m nearing 40 so have no idea how easily or otherwise this weight will come off, especially with the meds. See you back in January

Jingle - yes, please do join in! It sounds like you have a good plan. I’ll be walking to and from station on my working days which is 1 hr 20 mins a day. This is mainly because my travelcard runs out and I can save £3 a day on the buses. I may have forgot to mention I’m a total cheapskate Grin so will use that to motivate my exercise. We weren’t using our gym membership at all as booking classes I liked was a total hassle so that had to go.

Caroline - welcome, please do join in. This is the book I’m using www.amazon.co.uk/India-Knight-Neris-Indias-Idiot-Proof/dp/B00I61L284/ref=pd_rhf_ee_s_cp_0_3?psc=1&_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_wg=2xweE&pd_rd_i=B00I61L284&pd_rd_w=8wmiz&refRID=NPND856RVA7A120S8S4R&pd_rd_r=NPND856RVA7A120S8S4R&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21 got a second hand copy for £2.37 inc delivery. I love India Knight and the plan is clearly laid out including reintroducing foods.

Vitamins ordered, will arrive Wednesday. Saw myself on telly yesterday my face is so bloated I am really determined to do this!

Meanwhile two more days of eating carp call Xmas Grin. To be honest I’m not really enjoying how it makes me feel so will try to recall this when temptation calls.

I'm a similar size and also plan to lose weight after Christmas but I'll probably start on the 27th. I'll try to remember to get on the scales on Boxing Day morning first thing.

I plan to do sensible meals with no puddings or snacking apart from fruit. This has worked for me before and so long as I can get my head in the right place it should work again.

My face looks like its going to blow up, as its so fat.
Going to stick to 2 meals a day and cancel out breakfast. Exercise and all that boring stuff.

I'm in! Back to swimming and away with snacks. 4k by end of Jan is just about doable for me I think. Too embarassed to post starting weight. Basically my body can't take the weight or the crap I've been shovelling in for the past month.

I've just weighed myself. I'm 10 stone 6, so that's my starting weight. At 5 foot 1 it is too much. I've gained well over a stone in the last year.

I'm not sure what my plan is for today. I've got loads of Christmas food in the house and I was expecting a friend for the day but I'm not sure if she will make it at all as she is ill. My kids are at their dad's for a few days.

I'm actually quite looking forward to this as I want to be slim again and this feels like the right time.

Morning all. Can I join in? I really really need to get on top of my sugar issues. I gave myself a pass on sugar when I gave up drinking, but I've been sober for years and still have cake every night to celebrate! As a result my teeth are a mess.

Just going to cut sugar, keeping carbs etc in my diet (and will still eat fruit)

A nice side benefit would be to lose some weight! Currently 8 stone 9, goal weight 8 st.

Morning. Can I join too? 5 foot 2 and a lovely 11 stone 1 this morning. I knew I'd gained weight as my knees are hurting. I have no idea how I am going to do this yet so will be reading your posts for inspiration. I can't do anything too extreme as I am planning to do a few long distance runs this year and want to be lighter, faster but not faint!

Can I join in too? My target weight is also 8st 7 and today I weigh 9st 5. Any extra weight really shows on my small frame, I’m currently resembling a teletubby and my arse starts half way down my legs Sad

I’m planning to use MyFitnessPal to track 1200 calories a day, with the odd meal replacement shake thrown in.

Now to hide the 9 boxes of chocs and biscuits I received Shock

I'd like to join.

The diet for me starts again with earnest today. I lost 7lbs in November/December but have let go the last few weeks.

My BMI is 26. Im only 5'1 so at 9st 8 I look quite plump. Im hoping to get to 8 stone by Spring.

I'm in... 5'6" and 10st 12lb today Confused

Was 10st ( and wanted to lose 1/2 a stone) in July, but have done nothing but eat crap for 6 months. Have been on major house renovation, and have been stress eating.

Goal is 9st 7lb, holiday at end of March so would like to be close by then.

Eating rubbish today- out with family, then a new start tomorrow. Will be attempting dry January, aiming to run 3 times a week and get to gym at least twice.

If rain ever stops, going to go on bike for a quick spin today.

Can I join? 12 8 today so 4 stone to go. Still lots of Christmas food in the house so think I will concentrate on only eating at meal times for the next few days and then get stricter in the New Year. That will still be a huge improvement on the last few weeks!

Morning and welcome everyone! So pleased to see so many of you on here, and all the different plans but with the same weight loss goal! Have to head over to MILs for our pub lunch out so will reply properly later but just logging on to say morning! And Hooray! Day 1 is here!!!

Woke up full Blush after a disgusting amount of pigging out yesterday. THE book says to make sure don’t skip meals so had a rasher of bacon (DD2 had the other one as she’s too cute to say no to) and an egg. Two glasses of water and meds done. Feeling confident can manage the pub lunch. Will take my measurements when I’m back and post here.

Have a good day all and catch up later on.
