So, I was wondering ......... can anyone give me any tips on managing the Christmas buffet situation? Once I've started on a buffet, I tend to overeat,which, more often than not, leads me to feeling pretty sh*t the next day Sad

So do any of you have any tips on how I can manage the festive season better this time around?

Thanks guys.

Maybe drink a glass of water before. You'll start fuller.

Look at everything on the table before you start serving yourself so you can identify which dishes you really want to try and determine reasonable portions given the number of choices - don't just start at one end and add a bit of everything to your plate.

Place your entire meal on your plate at once, then move away from the food table and sit somewhere else while you eat. Don't keep taking a bit of this and a bit of that.

Try to choose a somewhat balanced meal if possible - you will feel horrible if you eat an entire trayful of sausage rolls or a dozen mince pies. Decide which treats you really want and then balance them out with more sensible options.

Only eat sweet foods after your meal, and again, put it on one plate and don't eat while standing at the buffet, so you won't end up picking.

Decide how many drinks you want to have and space them out over the time you intend to stay. Intersperse with water. As well as alcohol calories the booze will make you lose willpower.

Once you've finished eating, go and do something else. Don't stand near the buffet where you could be tempted.

Hope you have a fun and relaxing Christmas!

@Gaudeamus

Thank you SO much. This has really given me a structure and a focus; I'm printing it and popping it in my bag.

I don't drink alcohol or eat sweet things; it's just the savoury stuff I have to deal with .... but I do LOVE savoury food Blush.

Once again, many thanks. Wishing you and yours a very happy and peaceful Christmas.
