Weight watchers or slimming world?

Hi, I've decided I'm going to join either ww or sw after Christmas. Doesn't seem much point now as festive excesses fast approaching. I've looked at both plans and really don't know which would suit me better. I'm not a huge fish eater, mainly tuna, love chicken, and cook a lot with beef mince (chilli, Bolognese) and i use a fair bit of pasta. I like my fruit and veggies, eggs, cheese and yoghurts. When it comes to carbs, I can't eat whole wheat (Brown rice/bread/pasta) I can't digest it and get awful stomach cramps, followed up by bloating. I don't eat much chocolate, prefer crisps and do like my tea and coffee.

So any thoughts on what might be better? I'm currently leaning towards ww, but just wondered if anybody has done both and what they thought? TIA.

I’ve done both. I prefer WW. Slimming World was too ‘free’ for me, if that makes sense. Unlimited rice, pasta, potatoes etc sounds great but it didn’t help me learn good portion control. However I do know plenty of people who love it.

I've done both too. Ww is good for portion control but it got a bit tedious calculating points every time I made a chilli etc. Also I got into a bit of a state with it trying to save points for the weekend! Sw had been easier as you have such a lot of free foods so it's easiest to cook for the family and just tweak your portion so you have more veg etc. Also however much or little you eat off the healthy stuff you have the same amount of syns to play with so i eat much better tbh.

Thanks both. I've been looking at meeting times for my local area. Slimming world has one on a Monday morning which fits well as that's my day off, won't have to give up an evening, so will try that first.

I really don't like the word Syn. It just puts me right off. Especially with the naff spelling.

It's not 'naff', it's short for 'synergy'.

Ah! I didn't know that.

Tried both. SW all the way for me. Lots of free food so you don't feel hungry. I have lost about 2lb a week since Sept. Slow and steady. Now at target so go for free. 1 st 7lb lost.

Thanks oldowl. I'm going to start slimming world after Christmas (seems kind of pointless with festive food looming so close!) I did think WW for a while, but the more research into slimming world and the type of free foods available to fill up on (as I do get really hungry sometimes!) Has swayed me to SW, plus the meeting time fits better for me.

I've not done WW but I've lost 3 stone in 5 months on SW and not gone hungry once.

Try not to be too bad in December or you'll just spend January losing what you put on between now and new year

Does SW not allow massive amounts of carbs? I just can't eat them. I cant see how you can lose weight eating pasta , rice, etc.

There is a slimming world programme that severely limits carbs to 2 portions a day and you just eat protein and vegetables/ fruit. I'm doing that for a few days a week because I fluctuate too much without. If you do it properly, you are supposed to have 1/3 of a plate of veg, 1/3 of a plate of carbs and 1/3 of a plate of protein, so not unlimited carbs, although technically I suppose you could pile them high.

Also, across have you tried the low carb bootcamp on here instead of clubs?

Don't eat them then. Just because it 'allows' them doesn't mean you have to eat them. It's all about choice.

I eat about 200g carbs a day including dairy, pasta/potatoes, bread/porridge, fruit and veg and I've lost 60lbs. It's really just calories in vs calories! out.

I've never done WW but I'm on SlimmingWorld- it's awesome. It is a lot about how things are cooked and it makes me eat lots of veg and fruit too. I even make sure I'm getting my calcium too. 1 stone 4lb lost. Both me and my DH do it so it's easier preparing meals. I'd highly recommended it.

See if you can get a voucher for free joining. There always seems to be some somewhere.

Will keep my eyes open. Assuming there might be some sort of special deal on in January. So many classes free/no joining fee, that kind of thing.

I've lost 3.5 stone on SW since March. Gone from a size 16/18 to a 10/12.

It's a piece of piss, as long as you don't gorge on Mullerlights and other 'free' shit. Lean protein, tons of veg and some fruit. Sensible carbs if you must eat them (I don't really).

Agree with all the other posters above. Slimming World plan is easier to follow than the tedious point-counting of WW.

However, both plans give you a lot of leeway to eat things like Mullerlights, diet drinks and processed foods like the WW brand bars/biscuits and the Fibre One bars.

If you stick to the real food side of the SW plan you’ll get great results in a healthy way.

SW all the way. It's taught me to look at the proportion if foods on my plate rather than just banning certain foods. I lost over 6 stone following and, apart from the odd blip due to over indulging in sweet stuff, I'm at target a year later.
I would echo the suggestions to start low while you have momentum. Even if you go off plan and put weight on you really won't be the only one, but it'll be less than otherwise. It also gives you a few weeks to get your head around it ready for a full start in January.
