I will never weigh as much as I do today.

I can’t. I’ll kill myself if I continue the way I am going.

Today is the first day of my weight loss journey and I promise myself that even if I fall off the wagon, I won’t let it get as bad as this before taking action.

I weigh 18st 5lb. Hideous.

The reasons I want to lose weight.

  • I want to wear nice clothes without being uncomfortable
  • I want to enjoy having my photo taken
  • I don’t want to be embarrassed when meeting new people
  • I don’t want to set a bad example for my children
  • I don’t want to keep getting infections in my skin folds
  • I want to ease my aches and pains in my joints
  • I like getting compliments

Not expecting any replies as I’ve not asked anything but I shall be keeping a weight diary here.

I felt similar at the beginning of the year. I have now lost over 6 stone and very close to what I want to weigh.

I reached a low point and knew it had to change.
You can do this. Keep focused on your motivations listed above.
There are lots of people on here who wI'll support you. Good luck with it.

6 stone is amazing, well done! That must have taken a lot of hard work and discipline. I’m taking it a chunk at a time and my first goal is 17st by Christmas.

Thanks snap8.

It has been work and all too easy to slip into bad habits again. I had a list similar to yours and kept that in my head.

I worked out small targets and wrote down a goal to reach by the end of each month. I also put £2 away for each pound I lost and have kept that for a treat / reward.

Set yourself realistic targets. Take it in small steps and don't focus on all you want to lose but on each pound.

Thank you that’s really encouraging. Scary too! I can’t imagine what it must be like to be 6 stone lighter, you must just keep looking at yourself in the mirror. Grin

Good for you OP. I've lost 3 stone this year and am only 1 stone away from a healthy weight from my height. I feel so much better.

I recommend graphing your weight (fitbit is good), taking a photo of yourself once a month and getting counselling if required.

I can't wait to follow your journey. All the best.

That’s brilliant well done! I’m feeling really motivated reading about these big loses. It always feels so insurmountable at this stage but I have to believe it is possible otherwise I won’t even try.

Go for it!!

I had a moment last Friday when I got ready to go.out and just felt fat and miserable.

I said to myself then I hate feeling the way I do and vowed to sort it out.

A week on and I still determined.ams I've been very good aiming to feel significantly better by Christmas. I e logged my feel on fitness pal which is an easy way to keep tabs.

I haven't actually weighed myself as I'm too terrified. I might brave the scales later today .

Have you dieted before? I am a typical yoyo dieter and realised (again!) it had to stop last week. I want to lose about 6 stone too. I have decided this time I am not going to weigh every week. as when I do I get fixated on the number and it only takes a couple of weeks with a tiny loss for me to decide to give up. I am hoping that concentrating on eating smaller portions of healthy food. Will be susustainable and mean this time is the last time.
Best of luck.

I had a relatively smaller loss (3 stone) but my drivers were very similar to yours. The tipping point for me was looking through a set of holiday photos and realising there weren't any of me and the DCs because I always dodged the camera. I looked old, miserable, podgy, clothes were too tight, so unfit and my boobs were so massive that my neck and back were in constant pain.
I feel great now - if I allow myself a little vain moment, I like it when people compliment me!

A stone by Christmas is definitely achievable. What's the plan, how are you going to do it ?

Can I just give one simple tip that helps me? I brush my teeth around 7pm and don’t snack after-if I’m tempted I think “imagine how much flatter your stomach will be in the morning but it won’t be if you eat x,y,z.” Also have a look at the 16:8 diet, once in the habit it makes it easier to do the above.

At the end of August I weighed one pound less than you do now (18st 4). This morning I was 16st 11. You absolutely can do it op.

I find if I exercise I kid myself that I can eat more.

Some one said to me years ago you can't out train. Bad diet.

I'm going to use my time cooking healthier meals and just being a bit more active round the house decluttering washing car etc. All the jobs that need doing.

Good luck OP, seems like you have a really good attitude and you're exactly right - if you fall off the bandwagon just get right back on again. Don't give up! You got this!

I'm currently 15st 5lbs. Was 16st a month ago so going in the right direction. I joined Slimming World as I find the only way I don't cheat is with the threat of being weighed every week. I was 13st 7lbs pre-pregnancy and am a size 14-16 there, but am happier at 12st 10ish when im a 14 - I'm pretty tall and hourglass shaped so I feel comfortable there.

Wow you are all very inspiring. I’m feeling good despite accidentally inhaling a Hereos chocolate from dd. She didn’t like it and before I noticed it was half way done my throat 😱

Such are my bad habits so ingrained, I don’t even notice them!

I’m looking at doing a combination of 16:8, high protein and no snacking. Increase in my fluid intake and generally keeping busy so I don’t eat through boredom.

I’ve lost just over 3 stone since May . I was ill and went from 14st 8lb to 11st 12lb , in the past 3 weeks that I’ve been eating I’ve lost another 4lb and am the lightest Ive been in years with a normal BMI . I’m not dieting , I’ve swopped to bran flakes and prunes for breakfast or brown toast ( always had white bread before) , and then I have a lunch and dinner . I don’t snack in between meals or after dinner . I’ve stopped drinking any fizzy drinks except soda / tonic water with lime . I walk the dog for between 1-1.5 hours a day and I’m also trying to use my wondercore machine a few times a week . I’d like to get down to 10 1/2 stone in an ideal world . Well done everyone else and good luck OP .

snap8 - I follow slimming world but to be honest - I am more focusing on making sure that I actually eat when hungry, don't go too long between meals, fill at least 1/2 my plate with vegetables, eat less processed food and actually stop and think before I eat anything.

I used to kid myself that if I ate standing up or whilst walking that it didn't count. I could go all day with no food and then eat a loaf of bread as toast around 9pm. I try and plan ahead and have an idea of what I want to eat each day and make sure to have lots of vegetables in the house. I also drink a lot more water now. at the start I wrote down everything I ate and really noticed when I was eating without thinking and doing things like finishing off my kids leftovers ( I was brought up with the idea of not being allowed to leave the table until dinner plate were empty)

I think the noticing what are your trigger times / points is a good placer to start.

you said about looking in the mirror. I do but I thk because it has been quite quick my brain hasn't caught up and I still see myself as too big.

To echo a pp, diet is about 80%, exercise is about 20%.
It's much easier to not eat (insert item) than to burn it off.
Focus on food/drink first. Add in, increase exercise as you are ready.

Yeah I’d kid myself that I was exercising then I could eat more and in truth I have an appalling diet and transforming this will go a long way to helping me.

Thanks for the link to your thread. I’ll take a look. Congratulations on your fab weight loss. Star

I also agree with a pp about stopping eating when you have had enough rather than clear the plate . We had lunch out yesterday and I only ate about a third of the chips , whereas before I started losing weight I’d have just eaten the lot .

Check out the Diet Dr website and MN low carb bootcamp thread OP. It has a strong support group and is similar to eating a low GI diet for balanced blood sugar and health.
Low carb, high in (good) fats, lots of veg with lunch & dinner. I find it sustainable long term.

Considering an early night so I don’t keep thinking about food! Will it always be this hard? Sad

Snap: no, it will become natural. You will get used to eating and acting like a slim person.

Do have an early night though because sleep helps you have energy and willpower to stick to your diet.

My lowest point came at a health check at the GPs and realising that I weighed just over 19 stone. I really did hit the deck, but have made lots of small maintainable changes and am now just a smidge under 16 stone in around 14 months. I can't tell you how much better I feel, I've got loads of energy and getting into a size 20 after being a size 24 is more than novelty. I still do battle every day, it would be so easy to step back into my old ways.... but what makes the difference this time is when I have a bad few days, the voice inside somehow tells you to stop. And I do. A fitbit is a really good investment, logging calories and seeing it as a change of life, not a diet.
