How to get started - help with motivation

I did the blood sugar diet early this year and managed a good six weeks, losing about a stone and a half. I then got a stomach bug and spent three days being sick, which knocked me off track.

Since then all I've done is eat and eat. It's definitely emotional bingeing. I'd really love some help with how to make myself start again just on a healthy eating path, and not derail.

Hi

I feel very similar to you and have posted on another thread about motivation because I just can't seem to do it even though I'm the biggest I have ever been and feel miserable. Emotional binging is also something I struggle with - I'm not sure what the answer is.

It sounds like you did really well with the blood sugar diet. Would you do that again? What did it involve? I only have 6 weeks until a holiday and feel like I have left it too late to lose much weight even if I finally find some motivation but a stone and a half in that time sounds really good!

xx

The Blood Sugar Diet is good, there is a whole thread about it on here.

It’s eight weeks of low carb, high fat, 800 cals. There is a book with all the details that’s available for cheap online, also a website.

It is hard for the first couple of days, but then ok to stick to particularly as the quick weight loss motivates you.

A stone or so before your holiday is likely possible.

Have you heard of Beachbody? They make workout at home videos, you might of heard of insanity or t25. You can get what they call a challenge pack. You get set up with a workout, nutrient dense shakes and portion control pots. No need to calorie count - it’s awesome. You also get put into an online group (app or FB) of likeminded people where you support and cheer each other on. There’s tips and motivation that could help you overcome the emotional eating. I had the same issue for so many years.

I have a challenge group starting on the 30th. Take a look and let me know if it is something you think you could benefit from. It helped me lose 20lbs after having my last baby.

What would be a typical 800 cal day on the blood sugar diet?
How do you cope with hunger headaches and lightheartedness?

The absolute most important thing, is that you can stick to the diet / fitness plan long term. There's no point if you won't have time to do the exercise or cook the food, can't afford the food / classes, don't like the food etc.

I speak from experience - I've tried, & failed, at the low carb bootcamp twice this year. I've no doubt whatsoever that it works. Just not for me. I felt continuously sick on it. Too much rich food, insufficient carbs (duh!) I actually fainted the second time around because I couldn't face another fatty eggy breakfast.

Just to add. I don’t think an 800 calorie diet is a good idea. That is too low. And if it is high fat, you really won’t be eating much at all as foods high in fat are typically higher in calories.

Yes, that's me too. I used to be able to do it - in fact I did Harcombe for over a year, and felt really good on it. But any attempt to do it since having a partner and a child hasn't worked - I don't know whether pregnancy changed something, but 2 days in to low carb and I feel really sick. It doesn't go away either, not in enough time to make me stick to it anyway.

Peace and rach, please look at the details of the Blood Sugar Diet, either online or buy the book. It is written by a well regarded medical journalist and qualified doctor - Michael Moseley.
