It keeps popping up on my Newsfeed, but I can't actually work out what it is and what makes it different from the more traditional weight loss clubs such as WW & SW?

Yes! Can I recommend it? I'm not sure.
I've not done WW or SW so I've no idea how it compares. You can try the app for free and that gives you food and weight log.
I got 14days free trial of the "whole" package. For that you get a coach, daily tips and a group chat.
