Atkins, my first day, advice pls!!

Hi Folks

Got two stone to lose....

How's this looking for day one? because im just starving and no idea what im doing wrong

At 11am I had chicken and veg soup, this brought carbs up to limit for th day
at 1pm small avocado, slice of ham, slice of cheese
at 4pm half a small mackerel fillet
dinner tonight is steak

I would bin the soup and have eggs and either low sugar beans or bacon to start the day. Also where is the veg?

Atkins is low carb. Have you been to the low carb boot camp and low carb board?

- Bacon, eggs, avocado, mushrooms for breakfast

- mixed salad w/ grilled steak, cheese, fried mushrooms etc for lunch

- meat/fish/roasted cauliflower, broccoli etc for dinner.

- Snack on a few almonds/cheese during the day if you need

Stay away from fruit for the first week to kick any sugar cravings, introduce berries, apricots the second week as they're lower carb and don't kick you into a sugar overload like bananas. Put cream in your coffee.

You want foods high in natural saturated fat, so almonds, healthy oils - these are going to be what keeps your hunger away. DO NOT LIMIT FAT.

Don't eat soups - there is plenty to eat on a low carb diet/atkins too, google is your friend here!

Why? Why would you use all your carbs up in one meal?! Did you make the soup yourself?

There are carbs in the avocado - did you count those?

Why only half?

Well steak is lovely, but you should be having veg and/or salad with that.

If you'd bothered to read the Atkins book properly you would realise that in no way are you following the diet.

You need to make sure that you have plenty of low carb veg and salad with your meals. As well as a lot of fat. And then you won't be hungry.

BIWI, are you always this arsey? What's with all the pearl clutching over my soup? It was delicious and I wasn't about to bin it, thanks.

Thanks everybody else for's only babyweight so lots will shift through breastfeeding but I'm usually 9stone and currently just under 11 so need to get cracking. Will start again tomorrow.

I get arsey when people claim they're doing something like Atkins when clearly they're not. Because I can guarantee when they give up - not saying you will - then they blame the diet not the fact that they're not doing it properly!

It wasn't pearl clutching about the soup. It just seem like madness that you'd use your whole day's carb allowance on one meal.

Sorry if it sounded arsey. I didn't mean it to be, really.

However, my points still remain. And others have given you good advice too.

Lol yes BIWI is always like this! She keeps us on the straight and narrow on the boot camp threads and really is a font of knowledge on low carb.
