Thank you BOOP. I managed a 5 3/4 pounds loss in July so I'm quite pleased with that.

Good luck to you all in August, I'm sure we'll all do very very well (fingers crossed).

Always read these threads but rarely post! I've been waiting for the new one to start!
I have 7lbs I want to lose but would be happy with 5lbs. Already had my 'summer holiday' so theoretically, nothing should derail me this month.
Good luck, everyone!

Checking in, finished July on 10.5 so stayed exactly the same 2nd month in a row, considering I had a minibreak at the end of the month that isn't too bad I dont think. Off on hols come Thursday, so being golden untill then.

Hoping for a little loss this month, but with a 10 day holiday I think it will probably end up as another STS month.

No plans after hols though so who knows if I stick to being goodish at the weekends then I might get a loss!?

Off to read the end of the last thread now as have been stuck on a commuter train for nearly an hour!

Crawling back with my tail between my legs.
Had a shit week at work and slipped into stressed eating etc. Weighed myself today and I'm actually to embarrassed to write it down Sad.
Totally need to get back on track and head back in the game now.

Hello may I join you please? I've been comfort eating since my m/c last month and feel like a blob! Had to buy some bigger clothes the other day which I really can't afford. Doing slimfast for 2 weeks for a kickstart then will do low sugar with proper food. Not going to weigh myself tho - I'm going on the fit of my jeans so looking to drop a dress size.

Sorry for your loss Pumbleton. Not weighing sounds a good plan if it works for you.

Don't beat yourself up last, work sounds tough at the moment. Draw a line and a battle plan.

I start the month as a sts too Hairspray, so have hopefully shed the holiday gain (my weight, rather like my body, tends to bounce up and down so until I see it at the lower number for a few days I never quite trust it).

Thanks for the new thread BOOP oop a doop! Grin I imagine you're starting to look a bit Betty with your new figure, actually.

Welcome Pumbleton and Ni to The Best Thread on Mumsnetâ„¢!

TV just responding to your last comment on the July thread: congrats on hitting such low calories, but I'm not surprised you're gnawing your arm off on that lot: it's all sugar so each meal/snack will leave you with rapacious hunger pangs and cravings 45 minutes after you finish it. If you stick to protein during the day (which you can bulk up with veg if you like) you'll have a much easier time of it, and I'm sure you can squeeze in a sweet snack after dinner to congratulate yourself.

Don't worry queenie, you'll find that wagon again. In last month's thread we all confessed to being miles above our Lowest Weight - me by 3.5 kilos, which I expect was actually 4 kilos at times, as that weight was coming in after a couple of Fast Days. I'm hoping I'll have chipped it down to 1.5 kilos by the end of the week but I'm trying not to stress about it too much, however bloody demoralising it is.

Also sorry for your loss Pumbleton, I originally missed that in your post.

Well I'm starting August 6lbs heavier than I started July fgs. In fairness I deserve that as I've been on ahem a couple of holidays and lots of weekend revelry. I'm back in the wagon now though

Right all caught up.

Quim
Never had a "fasting coma" I am somewhat of a light sleeper though.

I can only fast right through when I am at work. Never attempted a fast day at home, feel like I would fail immediately, at home I am almost always picking and nibbling, even at healthy stuff, so I am strict at work when I am busy.

Only tend to get hungry at about 5pm and I have an early dinner and early night on fast days, I like a big dinner so I basically have all my calories then! Evenings are much harder than the day time for me, it's like I walk in my house and just want to eat everything!

Blush thank you Stellar I post a lot of food, not all of it is mine, I post some of what DP eats as broth and sadness don't look as fun, even with a Valencia filter! Insta-sham at its finest!

TV I 100% agree with Quim on this one, your diet is so starchy no wonder you are hungry all the time, cut back on your simple carbs and up the protein.

hairspray and quim - please excuse my ignorance, what are simple carbs that I'm getting wrong or was that essentially everything on yesterday's list

What are dead easy proteins to eat lightly on an attempted fast day, I won't be bringing anything fancy or home made to work so it needs to be easyily obtainable Blush

As for protein, I often have a hard boiled egg as an afternoon snack TV. Of course I never smother it in sea salt. Oh no! Wink A pack of prawns. Or ham. Or those really tasty flavoured cooked chicken pieces.

I'm not consciously low carbing as such. But I am avoiding processed carbs as they are so highly caloric. So today I have had one slice of (low carb as it happens) toast with breakfast, no processed carbs at lunch (tuna salad) and no carbs at dinner (cauliflower rice with my curry). So basically I try to have starchy carbs once a day only. E.g. Yesterday I had bacon and eggs for breakfast, chicken salad for lunch, but I had a handful of potato wedges with my fish at dinner.

Does that make sense at all? Confused

Simple carbs, also called white carbs, the big five are:
Bread, potatoes, rice, pasta and sugar.

Cut them out, or down significantly and you will feel less hungry. Don't bother with brown pasta or rice, brown bread isn't great either.

Let me break down your menu from yesterday
bagel with cream cheese - I don't know how many cals...
Bagel - simple carbs,
Cream cheese - might have added sugar and starch if low fat

cup a soup - 65cal
Most likely contains potato and cornflour, both simple carbs

oven baked crisps - 109cal
Potato

Activia yogurt - 100cal (must be able to do better here)
low fat yogs are really high in sugar, you would be better of with FF greek yog and some strawberries.

banana - 90cals?
One banana is the equivalent of 3 teaspoons of sugar, think of it as a treat rather than a snack.

small pot of fruit ?
Hard to say without knowing what fruit but anything tropical is usually high in sugar.

Watch out for anything low fat, it is usually crammed full of sugar to compensate for the lack of fat in flavor.

Good non carby snacks - babybel, boiled eggs, pepperami/salami.

Lots of fruit is sky high in sugar, so stick to berries, and avoid anything tropical, for snacking you are better off with veg sticks, celery is nice with cream cheese or hummus.

Instead of having your ham salad in a pitta just up the quantities and stick it in a lunch box as a ham salad, can also be done with tuna, chicken, eggs, cheese etc.

You can buy pre boiled eggs in snack pots from most supermarkets now. As well as snack portions of nuts - like those whitworth shots.

Complex carbs come from veggies, pulses and some ancient grains i.e. quinoa and barley.

Thanks so much for all this

Babybels and tuna/chicken salad seem like good things to take to work.
My fruit bowl is usually a nectarine, raspberries, strawberries and there is no way I view a banana as a treatWink. I eat those because I think they are fairly healthy(fruit) and not for any treat or taste upside

I probably need to not go too further just now lest I have to confess as to when was the last time I was in a supermarket doing midweek kind of shoppingBlush

Ditch the bananas if they're not there for a treat TV - they're certainly good for you in terms of potassium etc. but they're very sweet!

Hairspray has basically covered it, but in very simple terms, you need to ditch the bread, crisps and sugar (which includes sugary fruits and yoghurt) from your fast days and replace them with meat and eggs. Like BOOP I limit carbs during weekdays mainly because of the caloric value, and because you get far, far less "bang for your buck" with them, i.e. they don't fill you up for long, and are very addictive so they make you feel hungry again soon afterwards, so it's much easier to come in at a lower calorie count without them. You can decide what to do on non-fast days obviously, but if you're anything like me, you'll find that once you cut them on Fast Days you'll find yourself much more able to limit them on "normal" days too as you'll be accustomed to protein-based meals.

In fact, to begin with I wouldn't overly stress about calories on your fast days - start by finding what protein-based meals work for you. I don't have much to add to BOOP's work-friendly list: chicken, tuna, ham, Babybels and eggs, cottage cheese, soups if you can heat them up (although as Hairspray says, watch out for the potatoey ones). If you want to make fast days a habit, it's essential to find a sustainable menu for yourself. Also, if you find that in order to be comfortable you need to eat 100-odd calories over what the diet prescribes, so be it - you'll still see the benefits long-term, and there will actually be a long term if you find a good balance.
