Who's with me for couch to 5k?!

I'm going to start Couch to 5k when my new trainers arrive (today/tomorrow/weekend) and wondered if anyone wants to start too and we can have a little support group going?

I'm 39, 2 stone overweight, haven't done any running for over 10 years and even then I couldn't run 5k without walking. I have 2 young children and want to shape up. I currently swim twice a week and walk a lot (9,000 steps a day). But I'm still pretty unfit. I need to get my heart rate up!

So who is going to join me?! You need to be able to commit to 3 runs a week (30 minutes) for 9 weeks. Have a google of couch to 5k to see what it involves if you're not sure. I'll be using an app on my phone.

Who's in?!

I'll cheer you along OP.

I'm doing week 6 run 1 tonight and really looking forward to it.

I did get up to this point last year but then got a severe chest infection Which took months to get rid of so had to start again.

The best advice I was given by an experienced distance runner was that the hardest part of any run is putting your trainers on and getting out of the door. If you can do that you can achieve anything.

I'm in! I have been very lazy with the programme so I want to start from w1 and do it properly. I'm also 2 stones from goal weight and swim once a week.

I average 8-10 000 steps a day depending on of I go for a walk during lunch

I'm going to do it too, I've bought a sports bra and shopping for trainers at weekend, but I've have a tooth out and it's infected so waiting for that to stop being sore then I will start. I'm 37, 14stone last week! Heaviest I have ever been think I need to loose 4 stone. Sensible eating and the couch to 5k app is my plan.

I'm about to start week five. I recommend Sarah Millican for the voice, she's chirpy and energising. Actually I haven't run since Monday when I ran in pouring rain and got soaked and was about to talk myself out of running today until I saw your post, OP. I guess I just need to get the trainers on and get out the door - great advice!!
I'm 37 (days away from 38) and a stone and a half over my ideal weight, assuming that's the amount needed to drop a dress size.

I'm using the NHS couch to 5K app by the way, which has been great! :) www.nhs.uk/Livewell/c25k/Pages/get-running-with-couch-to-5k.aspx

Me! I started (again) on Tuesday and did Week 1 Day 2 this morning. I've started it a few times, furthest I got was week 3 Blush I'm at least 4 stone overweight at 5ft 2, have rejoined Slimming World as well, lost 3.5 lbs in 2 weeks (slow progress) but Cto5k changed my body shape noticeably so I'm back to it! I've been using the ZenLabs app but might switch to the NHS one as I've heard good things

I'm in but won't be able to start until tomorrow as I have yoga tonight. I'm about 3 stone overweight and currently do about 8000 steps a day

GreyandGrumpy48, fantastic! We can all update each other on how we get on. I'm a bit worried that I won't be able to run for a whole minute without stopping!

Just looking ahead at the plan for each week, seems mad that we'll be running for 25 mins in just 6 weeks time Shock I'm just about managing the 60 secs at the moment haha

I know! It seems crazy. Hopefully we'll all surprise ourselves.

Moo, I did the 20 mins run on Monday night and I can honestly say I could have gone further.

I'm actually looking forward to my long run on Sunday or Monday :)

Change of plan - going running tomorrow. My colleagues are all going for a run during our lunch break (my team is full of marathon runners and I'm the youngest AND fattest Blush)
