Feeling as fat as the day I started.

I'm struggling with my body image at the moment.

I joined slimming world earlier this year and have just got my 2 stone award and am now a healthy weight.

However I am not feeling great at present

Mostly I feel as fat as day no. 1 which is affecting me two ways

  1. I am failing to appreciate that I am now much healthier and slimmer and now for not know what weight I should be.

  2. I feel embarrassed basically. I feel like if I am feeling a proper fatty at this weight I must have been properly fat before and feel like a failure as a result of what I allowed to happen.

Has this happened to other people?

Yes, I lost a similar amount of weight last year and although I knew that I was much fitter and saw the difference in dress size, I still felt too large. I think for me it was that I expected the weight loss to magically fix the self esteem and emotional issues I had and when it didn't I felt awful and hyper critical of myself.

Can you put something weighing two stone in a rucksack and carry it around for a day?
Well done by the way.

Firstly well done!
I could've written this. I've lost 4st on SW but just feel as fat as I did last year. I know that my clothes are smaller but automatically reach for bigger sizes when shopping and just have no idea what to wear now and still wear ill fitting clothes to hide behind!
I get embarrassed if people comment on the weight loss, particularly men, for some reason.
Looking in the mirror fills me with disgust and in my headI still look the same as before I lost weight.
I read something that it's a common thing and that it takes time for you to adjust to your new body shape/what you see in the mirror. I'm hoping that's true and I'll soon feel proud of what I've achieved!

Are any of you doing weight training alongside losing weight? I don't mean to be rude so please don't take the wrong way, but I've heard if you don't try to build muscle, you can become what's known as skinny fat. But if you lift weights/do squats/crunches can change shape a bit and make firmer.
Saying that, I try and do this but still have fat mirror days. I have 1 stone to lose before goal weight and its taking a long time to come off. Like 1/2 pound a week and I'm only eating 1200...

keeponkeepinon I decided on SW as I like eating and as a shift worker eating at funny times I didn't want to be doing too much counting/weighing!
I personally tweak the plan to suit me (now I feel comfortable with it) so I weigh out carbs (pasta/rice to 70g) and I avoid bread full stop as I'm a carb monster and would eat huge portions. I do have butters/cheese/avocado in small amounts that I don't count the syns for.
I'm not a big drinker but nothing is forbidden on SW you just have to count it, if I'm having a night out I tend to restrict syns on the days before and after and use them up for that day, just making sure I stick to 105 syns for the week.
If you enjoy a glass or wine of an evening that can be accommodated within your allowances too.

SW has been brilliant keepon It's been ridiculously easy to stick to and follow (after the first week or so, getting my head round what to use my A and B choices for)

I know how you feel. I've lost 45 pounds but over 20 months. I WISH I had taken proper photos of myself because I barely feel any different. Do you have any photos from before your weight loss you could compare to now? Sometimes seeing it in front of you can help?

One trick I have seen on TV and also done myself (a variation of) is to get a physical representation of your weight loss. You know like X amount of bags of sugar. I pick my lo up and remind myself how I've lost him plus another stone on top and I do get a temporary moment where I can feel my achievement.

So grab a toddler and walk about is my advice! That's how much weight you've lost! Well done you!

I don't have many photos. But I might have one I'll have a look through them.

It's weird. I still "feel" fat. But don't think I look fat.

I hope I will just adjust soon enough :)

I wrote a very similar post last Sunday after I caught sight of myself (I'm a complete mirror and photo avoider!) I still looked so big and I've lost 2 stone. I do feel different though. I know what you mean about being a fatty now so must have been a real fatty!

Just keep going and think about how much you are doing for your health! Huge health benefits and slowly slowly you will get the body that you visualise.
