I can't wait - it's due out mid May Does anyone know anything about it? It's sounds just what I need - as a IBS sufferer and someone prone to yeast over.growth especially after antibiotics

I've struggled with 5:2 as I get nauseous so I'm hoping this will suit me better Does anyone have any idea of what it might involve as I'd like to get started on it early or at least get myself in the right frame of mind

Bloomed I don't know, I'm wondering if it's eating kefir and sauerkraut. I know that Tim Spector of the Diet Myth and Michael Mosley have a common interest in prebiotic and probiotics and I found this article by Tim Spector http://www.wired.co.uk/article/ditch-diets-tim-spector-genetic-epidemiologist

And Michael Mosley did an episode of “Trust me I’m a Doctor” featuring one their 6 week experiments. 1 group used probiotics, 1 group ate old fashioned/non-processed rolled oats (porridge, musli style, etc), last group ate fermented foods (sourkrout, Kim chee, kefir). One of the presenters did all 3.
End of trial – all the groups benefited. IIRC, oatmeal improved the ratio/# of the very beneficial gut bacteria, probiotic used increased the # of that specific strain, fermented stuff gave a boost to a range of good gut bacteria. Summary, they all produced positive results (range of responses per group). Presenter had the biggest boost. Recommendation was to incorporate non-processed rolled oats & fermented foods into your diet//no need to spend more for “probiotics” unless you have a dietary issue.

I'm enjoying it and am psyching myself up to do the 2 phase remove and repair plan. It seems to be 5:2, the blood sugar diet and all that he's found out about the gut all rolled into one book

Does any of you know if fermented food would be ok to eat when you have a yeast allergy?

Martha sorry I don't know
nell I finished the book. Actually I am doing the first elimination phase already... have been doing it for 2 mnths, don't eat dairy/grains/pulses etc and do 16:8 quite often
I don't think I will be including any of those food anytime soon. I started it as I have recurrent UTI/BV etc and thought that by supporting my good gut bacteria I might get rid of it. On longer course of antibiotics at the moment as well so taking pre and probiotics + fermented foods.
Have to say that I seem to tolerate the antibiotic much better and am on 3 different strong ones at the same time.
Would be nice to keep this thread going...

Michael Mosley was on radio four this week discussing his Clever Gut Diet book. There's also the video on you tube called 'Pill Camera Swallowed - follow the Gut - Brit Lab -BBC' showing the journey of his food through the digestive system. He says that the stomach is the 2nd brain and that depression is believed to be linked to the bacteria in your gut..... sounds an interesting read..!

I'm not a fermented food fan. I do like Tamari and miso soup though . I use a good betaine digestive supplement from Viridian which is fab. and or Udo's Choice supplement (not the oils though they are probably ok for some people). That is lovely for helping sleep.

I'm taking a small spoonful of Evening Primrose oil twice a day and it's brilliant! btw I have no special interest in any of the above!

Yes we could be growing into our own thread here
Im still trying to plan what I'm doing. I'm thinking I’ll follow a Mediterranean diet – I love this type of food (and I can have a glass of red wine and dark chocolate 🤙😀) I’ll cut out those foods that don’t agree with me and my IBS and broaden the range of foods I eat and include fermented foods. I thought I’d ease into intermittent fasting after a week or so by trying 1 day fast of 800 calls rather than 500 then build up to two fast days. Oh, and I’m going to increase my exercise – get on my bike again . How does this sound? Also I got my order of VSL#3 probiotics delivered today. I've also put together a shopping list for my trip to the nearest town tomorrow

I loved the book! Don't have gut problems or masses of weight to lose but eat too much sugar and general crap, I like the idea that it's not my fault my bad bugs make me do it! I already make yoghurt in my instant pot, so off to a good start. I made some sauerkraut yesterday (have never tasted it before so no idea what it will be like) I also found an interesting recipe for Indian dosa pancakes on a fermenting website using brown rice and red lentils. This is currently growing in my kitchen and looks like some sort of alien life form! I also made the granola recipe from the clever guts book- totally delicious. Oh, I've also started to do 16:8 to incorporate a little bit of fasting

Oh god sauerkraut I HATE it! It's instant IBS for me!!!! We're all different.
Ds used to make Kombucha, it was horrible, so acid, it stank his room out (let alone his farts Shock )

M.Mosley has just been on the radio talking about the wonder of turmeric, now THAT I can agree with him about it's brilliant and does seem to suit everyone. He also said that we all react to foods differently which is something that seems to be ignored by the mainstream medics.

Interested in following this thread as I've been wanting to buy this book but didn't know if it would be worth the read. I have suffered from IBSd for a number if years now and i will literally do anything to help it as it takes over your life.

Numberone Try only eating fruit on an empty stomach. I used to have IBS and now I'm fine. I also follow the Hay diet which is not having protein and carbs at the same meal. So a big green salad (or green veg.) with protein (not pork or pork products though). Is great.

It's a change from traditional eating but it really works.

I'm two weeks into a diet that has no sugar, no processed foods, no red meat, basically fish, low carb vegetables, cheese, eggs, good oils and I have dropped 5lb in a week and am never hungry. I basically happened across it from going low carb then going stricter because of a health complaint.

My partner watched the recent sleep program on TV with Michael Mosley presenting and tried to get the prebiotics he has found effective for insomnia but they were out of stock everywhere. It sounds really interesting.

I've been on this diet for a couple of weeks now. It's relatively easy to follow and most of the recipes are tasty.Im trying to incorporate some fasting by missing breakfast but I feel really hungry right now.Have the rainbow ratatouille in the oven now and it smells really good!

I finished this book over the weekend. I don't know if I'm going to do the two-stage process he recommends in the book but I am definitely going to incorporate most of the food he mentions into my diet. I've really started to buy into the idea that everything we eat has an effect on us.
