VLC diets(15 Posts)
Would just like to hear your experiences of doing a VLC
I'm not after opinions on the rights or wrongs, just to see what your weight loss was like?
I have an awful lot to lose and want something to 'kick start' it all off!
The first week you will usually see quite a big loss, 7lbs isn't unusual. It then slows down but averages about 3lbs per week. If you stick to it religiously and drink the water a stone a month is achievable.
Great results but it is bloody hard.
And I know you don't want to hear about the rights and wrongs but I have to say op that quick, rapid weight loss can cause other problems.
My personal experience with VLC diets has left me with gallstones and long term digestion / IBS problems.
Please read up on all the information you can before you make a decision.
Good luck whatever you choose.
I'm sticking to about 100-1200 calories a day. In my first month I lost 9lbs. (I've never been one to have that big weight loss in the first week.) On month two know so will let you know!
Sorry, I should have said, by VLCD I was talking about the Cambridge/Lighter Life/ Slim & Save type of diets. Approx 600 cals a day.
I'd check out the blood sugar diet book. Lots of scientific evidence and recipes.
I'm aware of gallstone problems etc, one of my best friends has suffered due the VLC she did although she did it far longer than recommended
This is more to give me a kick start than a long term solution
Definitely recommend looking at Michael Mosleys blood sugar diet book. Lots of great advice in there.
I spent a small fortune on New You, lost 1 1/2 stone in 6 weeks. Put it all back on and more once I started eating actual food again.
I didn't feel good when I was doing it and looking back it was a stupid thing to put my body through ( IMO ). It's not food.
I've come to realise that diets don't actually work ( for me anyway ) not VLC, WW, SS.
I'm listening to my body now, eating whatever I want but only when I'm actually hungry and stopping when I'm full. No restrictions, no cutting out food groups, no going without or deprivation.
Its working, I've lost almost 7lb in under 2 weeks without dieting. Thank you Paul McKenna.
I spent a few months on Slim and Save last year Aliiii and lost 50lb. That was over about 4 months, and like any diet there were weeks with unexplained small losses and weeks with big ones too!
I approached it as a last ditch attempt after years of unsuccessful diets, and saw it as a kick start too. It has its downsides and I had plenty of negative comments, but it felt right for me at the time.
I've since lost another 39lbs calorie counting (so lost 89lb in total), which I had planned to switch to from the outset, and have a couple of stones to go. Good luck with whatever you decide
CANT-thanks very much for your message, you've done exactly what I want to do
I have around 70 plus to lose and wanted something to get it all started

I'm doing a VLC through MFP and I've lost 13lbs in 3 weeks..
3 litres of water a day
25g of carbs or under
70% of my overall calories must come from fat
The rest comes from protein.
Overall Cals: Between 1000 and 1200.
Usually, cals that low at my size would leave me feeling horribly hungry but for some reason I'm just not. I don't snack anymore and I@m not really bothered about food generally. It used to be my life.
I'm on the bootcamp thread on here and following the principles of "proper" food etc and I have to say, I feel awesome
I have 8 stone to lose so drastic measures were called for! The first week was hell on earth and I felt completely crap, but now I'm SO much better than I was when I was on weight watchers (lost 4lbs in 4 months!)
Breakfast: Protein shake made with almond milk (must be low sugar)
Lunch: Olives, sundried tomatoes, goats cheese and chorizo salad
Dinner: Duck breast with a blackberry port sauce and asparagus
Total cals: 1163
I'm a total foodie so this suits me down to the ground!
anyone on or been on a vlcd diet, what 'invisible' snacks as such can you have. I drink Bovril and have one can of diet coke per day. besides my shakes thats all i have. looking for an extra few things that are basically like Bovril which is only 8kcal per mug, 0g fat/carbs and carbs of which sugars is 0.6g. so something like that.
cheers Lucy xx
