Common Sense Eating

SouthernNorthernGirl · 11/02/2017 13:32

I wanted to start a thread about eating sensibly / healthily etc without any diet fads involved.
Would love a bit of support in this, and I'm sure there are others that feel the same.

The reason why is here

I thought we could perhaps have a set day to weigh in, although maybe every 2 weeks or so?

OP posts:
flossisboss · 11/02/2017 13:58

waves

I'm up for a weigh-in day. I don't mind what day or how frequently.

SouthernNorthernGirl · 11/02/2017 17:49

Tuesdays?

I realised maybe I came on a bit bossy in the first few posts Blush
I just would love to have the support of other people in a similar place Smile

I'm in
I'm sick of diets too and I know that in my case they don't work. I never used to diet and I never put on weight then I went on a diet because I was eating too much rubbish before my periods - my real problem was the pmt and it wasn't something to be solved through a diet. Since then I've done loads of diets and have fallen into a pattern of losing and gaining weight.
I find this approach works for me: eating less or ditching the diets by Gillian Riley. Diets and their rules and restrictions make me rebel and I pick food and overeat I end up confused about what food I like or what and when to eat.
What I'm doing is allowing myself to eat what I want and am slowly getting back to "normal" eating that suits me. I try eat eat for my health rather than to lose weight, although I want to lose weight and hope I will do. I try to choose my food and accept the consequences of bad choices - I'd rather have a healthy tasty meal than a cake - although I have a cake if I fancy one but it's a trade off for me

nell15 · 11/02/2017 18:50

Oh and exercise- walking my dog, cycling, moving more

KlingybunFistelvase · 11/02/2017 18:56

I'm in!

I don't do well with diets. I'm definitely up for healthy eating, less Wine, Cake and more exercise.

I'm a bit podgy these days and definitely need to lose some weight.

flossisboss · 11/02/2017 19:18

Southern you don't sound bossy! You sound like you want to make this happen Grin

I'll be weighing in on Tuesday.

nell totally with you on not cutting anything out completely and eating what you want within reason.

I've been using myfitnesspal since November and have lost a stone. Need to lose another 3 but I'm fine with it coming off slowly if it means keeping it off for good. My challenge now the spring is coming is to do more exercise and hopefully boost the weight loss.

TheMD · 12/02/2017 01:37

I'm in! Currently recovering from bulimia/binge eating disorder so it's not an easy road to navigate but I'm trying to be kinder to myself and that means getting to a weight I'm comfortable with. I'm tracking my calories and steps on Fitbit and basically just trying to make sure to take in fewer calories than I expend. Current weight is around 74kg - don't want to weigh myself 2 days before my periodConfused Food luck to everyone, we can do this!

SouthernNorthernGirl · 12/02/2017 02:11

^TheMD* Grin at Food luck.

Pleased others are joining too.

YY to eating as you wish. No need for diet food. Also more movement is a good one - I'm far too lazy at the moment.

SouthernNorthernGirl · 12/02/2017 02:12

Oops. Bit of a fail.

SouthernNorthernGirl · 12/02/2017 07:43

Just read my pp's back - I didn't mean you had a bit of a fail, I meant I had with the whole ^TheMD instead of TheMD*

Can I hop on the bandwagon? I don't have a weighing scales at the moment (getting one) but I'm not overweight I assume. However, I normally eat the most unholy pile of crap.

I have poor self discipline and I just give in to every little craving. My worst habits are emotional eating and boredom eating.

I'm going to hit 30 soon Confused and I feel like it's all going to catch up with me.

So this week I have been trying to be good. I'm having healthy meals of proper portions, not endlessly refilling my plate. I am having 2 small, healthy snacks in the day of nuts, veg, humus etc and one treat of an evening, but 5 marshmallows instead of a packet or two biscuits instead of 12.

So far I'm feeling quite satisfied and learning to listen to my body a bit more.

I would love to keep up with you guys and fond out how you're getting on.

Oh and I talk too much! Grin

Lilybensmum1 · 12/02/2017 19:26

I would like to join, biggest I have ever been and will turn 40 this year I really want to sort myself out, I too have had eating disorders and tried many many diets.

Healthy eating and moving more is the way I want to go, weigh in Tuesday??

flossisboss · 12/02/2017 19:53

I'm actually quite excited about this thread Grin I've never done any kind of weight loss club so it's very novel to have other people to chat to.

Submariner I'm a boredom/emotional eater too. I've had to deal with the fall out of my relationship ending recently so it's been difficult not to eat whole packets of jaffa cakes etc. I'm now only buying treats which are individually wrapped so it's less tempting to have 'just one more...' Blush

Good luck everyone!

Submariner · 12/02/2017 20:10

Oh dear floss, sorry that you're having a tough time. Go you though, doing something for yourself by eating healthier. And fab progress by the way.

And you're right - I find controlling what comes into the house in the first place makes a big difference. (She says after 5 whole days as a certified health guru!)

flossisboss · 12/02/2017 20:27

Ah thanks Sub I'm getting there! I think your goal of getting healthier for your 30th is a good one. It helps having something to work towards, even if you're not actually overweight. I remember doing a healthy eating kick a few years ago when I was slim. I didn't lose weight (didn't need to!), but the improvement in my skin, hair, nails, etc was incredible.

Bigbongos123 · 12/02/2017 20:42

Hi guys can I join in?

I realised today when I was looking at old photos that I've been on a diet non stop since the birth of my first child and all I have to show for it is weight gain and guilt.

I want to stop the diets, eat well and think about my wellbeing over the scales. But I do NEED to cut the sugar. Big time.

Submariner · 12/02/2017 20:47

Hi Big - fab name! Grin

Sugar is such a downfall for me - as soon as you have some you want more!

flossisboss · 12/02/2017 20:59

Sugar is such a lovely, tasty, comforting bastard

SouthernNorthernGirl · 12/02/2017 21:07

Just got back on here, those asking to join, of course you all can!
Yes, weigh in Tuesdays Lily

It's really lovely that everyone is doing the same kind of eating - as you wish, without over indulging,

What has everyone had today? Would be nice to get some different ideas.

I was just thinking about this! I would love to join and Tuesday would be perfect, a day to lose the weekend bloat would be ideal.

I also feel like I have been on an eternal diet and really want to eat normally now DD is 2 and watching me. She offers me food when I'm skipping meals and feeding her....

Also braving a run tomorrow evening, wish me luck! and call an ambulance

We can do this.

flossisboss · 12/02/2017 22:00

Good luck Plum let us know how you get on!

Today I had:

Quaker porridge sachet and coffee (both with sugar Blush)
Two eggs on a slice of toast
A satsuma 😇
A microwave meal from Cook with rocket
A Wispa bar

I'm just under my 1200 calorie goal so feeling good

flossisboss · 12/02/2017 22:00
