Exercise without cardio?

I am currently 11st 2lb and want to get down below 10st 7lb so not loads to lose. The problem is diet wise there isn't much left to cut out, I eat healthy most of the time. It's exercise that I need to do! I walk and cycle a fair bit but I definitely need to do a workout regime to tone up and loss a few extra pounds.

Problem is I hate hate hate cardio. I have lung problems and find it far too uncomfortable.

Can strength exercise alone help me tone and lose weight? If so what's best?

I think you might actually be me!! I'm starting with some kettlebell exercises next week - I think a bit of weights and crunches, squats and lunges should help? Although I have been trying to lose the same amount for about 2 years, so I would love to hear other ideas too.

Def strength train - is wonderful for women
KBs are a good way to start but be careful with form. Get a friendly pt to show you how to do a proper KB swing and a press as it can be easy to hurt yourself if you do it wrong.

Better yet, have a taster session and learn to deadlift and squat properly. All marvelous for the posterior chain and bring untold health benefits.

One thing to watch for is you may not loose as much weight as you expect but your size and shape will inprove beyond what the numbers suggest. Monitoringbody fat % can be a much better indicator of progress

Enjoy!

That's encouraging, thanks!

I will have to think about joining a gym if the budget will allow.

Are there any good DVDs or YouTube tutorials anyone knows of?

Watching with interest - I have moderate cfs/me and have lost a lot of muscle tone due to a mixture of enforced inactivity and fatigue.

I've put on a few pounds over Christmas and would love to lose them sharpish. I manage to avoid putting weight on by doing 16:8 daily.

I can't do anything weight bearing as lots of hip pain or do anything that raises my heart rate as this gives me severe post exertional malaise (read bed bound for a few days recovering).

Definitely do weight training, I totally am convinced it makes the biggest difference. I also don't like cardio, but only as I find it boring, I do about ten to fifteen mins of cardio then about 30 mins of weights most days, alternating, like day one abs, day two lower body, day three upper body, (arms, back shoulders basically ).

You can use something like the Chloe Madeley weights for women app, or use different exercises on line. Also you can buy dumbells and different iron York weights off Amazon and use them, take up no space. Lift as heavy as you can. Weight lifting actually makes women leaner, not bulk up.

If uou do have space a little weights bench can also be really helpful.

This is brilliant info! Thank you all.

Unfortunately no puregym near me. There is a weights gym a few minutes walk from me, but it's always full of very serious looking bodybuilding types so I am very intimidated!

I had some Amazon vouchers for xmas so will have a little shop.

Let's do this!!
