Contraception that doesn't cause weight gain

At the end of last year I had the implant put in to my arm. Over the year I have gained about a stone despite going to the gym, attending fitness especially classes 3 times a week and joining slimming world.

I am worried that the implant has made it harder for me to lose weight and easier for me to gain weight. Has anyone had a similar experience?

In 2015 I lost roughly 2 stones without regularly exercising. Just following the weight watchers plan. I was taking the mini pill for part of this time but then switched to natural family planning (i.e.not having sex when I'm most likely to be fertile). So no hormone based contraceptives.

My willpower this year especially in the latter half has not been great so I can concede that it might be that. However the lack of success of seeing changes on the scale has really made it difficult to stay motivated to keep to the plans, fitness classes etc.

I have also just turned 30 so don't know if my metabolism has slowed down or whatever. I lost serious amounts of weight (about 40lb) in my early 20s largely from just going to the gym but with some calorie restriction. I wasn't on any birth control at that time either though.

So it seems to me I have more success at losing weight when I'm not taking any birth control. However I really really really do not want to get pregnant. I already have 2 boys under 5 and I'm not ready to consider having more unless I shed this weight.

Anyway my question to you is what do you think I should do? Get this bloody implant out of me and switch to another form of contraceptive? If so which one is least likely to cause weight gain as I don't want the hassle if I won't see the results.

Copper coil if you can put up with (potentially, it doesn't happen to everyone) heavier and more painful periods?

I don't mind heavier bleeding as long as it's not more frequent. I have been put off the coil as I heard it was painful to put it in and also am terrified that it will move.

What about the combined pill? Does that cause weight gain. I was on it for a while and can't remember whether I gained weight or not. I was within my bmi so it wasn't that noticeable.

I gained weight on the combined pill. I also got pregnant. Twice. I'd been talked into believing the first time, almost 10 years previously, was an event utterly unlikely to be repeated. Turns out it wasn't!
