Help me cut down on sugar!!

Sorry this isn't a TAAT, but the thread about eating chocolate every day made me realise that I eat far too much sugar.

I'm not particularly overweight, within healthy range for bmi but about a stone heavier than I'd like to be. I had a baby 6 months ago and I'm only 5lbs bigger than I was pre pregnancy, but I still feel huge iyswim.

I'm kidding myself it's baby weight, it's not, it's the sheer amount of dark chocolate digestives I'm putting away.

It's like I'm addicted. I know that sounds ridiculous, but I feel like I have to have chocolate every day. I feel really disappointed if there's no chocolate in the house and have been known to get dp to bring me more on his way home, it's becoming an issue!

The thing is, I really like it. The rest of my meals are ok, mostly healthy. Probably not brilliant by mumsnet standard but usually packed full of veg or salad, nothing fried, mostly from scratch. I do like the occasional pizza but we're talking maybe one every two weeks?!

I also like diet coke which I know is not sugary, but I'm sure I've seen somewhere that said because of the sweetener it makes you crave sugar?!

Can someone help me cut down? I don't want to give it up entirely to be honest because I like it and I don't need a huge lifestyle change I just need to put down the biscuits and have them as a treat rather than breakfast an every day thing.

I think I'm worse now on Mat leave, because I would take healthy food to work, and then I couldn't eat crap because I didn't have any.

Is anyone else the same? Has anyone given it up or significantly cut down?

What can I replace it with?!

Thanks!

Yes. Haven't had a soft, fizzy drink like diet coke or lemonade in over a year. I drink lime n soda as a treat or when out and otherwise drink tap water or fizzy water.

I don't buy crisps, biscuits or sweet things. I won't have them in the house. I take fruit to baby groups if I know cake is served and will have that instead. It is possible.

Did you do it gradually or just go cold turkey?

I have given up sugar in the past and I had really good weight loss. But as usual I then treat myself with chocolate and defeats all the hard work as the cycle starts again.
I've come to the conclusion that I must give up cake, biscuits and chocolate. Full stop....im going to be on it from Monday if anyone wants to join me....my rules for me are no chocolate, chocolate flavoured anything, biscuits, cakes or stupid cereal bars pretending to be healthy.
Im having porridge, soups, vegetables and casseroles, stews etc no snacking.

It will be very much a sugar detox...the first week will be hell but I left myself no choice!

Can you swap the diet coke for sparkling water with ice and slices of lime in it?

Or allow yourself one glass of diet coke a day?

Similarly allow yourself those biscuits only at a set point, start off only having two with the first cuppa when you get in from work. Then every other day. Then weekends only.

I want to go cold turkey but I really don't think I can!

I hate sparkling water but I reckon I can manage half/1 glass of diet coke a day.

Maybe I could do one sweet thing a day? Then maybe down to every other day?! Then once weekly or something?!

I think that's doable?! I really should just quit it altogether but I'd miss nice things.

I know it's rubbish teeny, and if a phased decline is better for you , thats fine! For me, I cannot do one of anything and although I know I could cry with cravings for cake etc in the first week or so, I know I have to go cold turkey to make that leap.
