What was/is the tipping point for you, that made you get on with losing weight? Feeling so angry with myself.

I'm just so angry with myself. I've always thought I was plump, in part due to a series of awful boyfriends. In reality I ranged from a size 10 to small 14/12...so not fat at all. But I thought I was, so took no care of my figure and have happily eaten crap upon crap.

Now, my youngest is 4. And despite putting on very little when pregnant with him (and having gone down to smaller than pre preg after #1 I am now nearly 5 stone overweight. I'm a size 16/18, and really big around my middle.

I hadn't noticed as such as my legs, face etc haven't changed much, but my middle is huge.

But I don't seem to do anything about it. Instead I read books on body positivity to try to embrace it instead, which is a good thing but I still need to lose the weight.

My eating habits are awful, really awful...despite the kids always having good food.

So, what was the starting point for you? What worked and what didn't?

I think my tipping point was just suddenly realising that only I could do it and nobody else iyswim, so want going feel sad I was going to go for it.

Initially did sw but now do mfp. My big loss was sw and now use mfp to maintain.

What worked was keeping a constant diary or everything - even the bad bits. This accountability made me more determined to not cheat myself.

I also made my eating plan the one we all did - it was healthy and balanced and good for us all.

I think you have to feel ready most of all.

Go for it Witsender Smile

For me it was being told that my backache and sore legs was due to my size and only I can fix it. I've always been on the larger size (been at least an 18 since 2002) but recently I've crept up to a 24/26.

I've joined a HIIT class that has been modified for my abilities and I'm eating lots fresh meat/veg/fruit/eggs and no more than 1800 calories a day.

I'm into week 3 and I've lost 10lb so far.

You will do it but you have to want to and you have to do it for you.

A call from my GP saying I am borderline diabetic. Made me really focus on my diet (which was crap) - I don't weigh normally, but think that it may help to start, so that I have a goal.

I read that in extreme cases diabetics can lose their driving license - the thought of that really scares me.

I had to buy a new work suit because the old one was too tight, paid £200 for a nice one that made me feel confident, then a couple of months later that was too tight as well. It made me realise that my eating habits were getting out of control.

Haven't lost anything yet but am starting today. Yesterday I got a new car mount for my phone and on the way out we decided to try filming ourselves like everyone in the world seems to be doing at the moment. It was great. DH, the DDs in the back...and driving was what I can only describe as a huge white mound of lard wearing sunglasses. I was horrified. My face has lost all definition and is just big with a little mouth, nose etc. I'm not stupid, I know how big I am, but even so. I'm totally disgusting.

Being angry with yourself is not going to help. You need to feel success and achievements to spur you on.

You should find a short term goal that is easily achievable and stick to it- it might be just changing a habit like no food after 7pm, or try to lose 2/3Ibs a week, walk 2miles a day etc, it's your goal and there should be a motivation behind it like fitting into a new outfit for a Christmas party.
Once you have achieved this you'll feel amazing so you pick another goal to work towards, could be more ambitious something like 10k run or wearing a new bikini and pick a date like spring 2017 to have completed this....then a long term goal so how you want to look a year from today!

Remember it takes 4 weeks for you to notice a difference, 8 weeks for your family/friends to notice and 12 weeks for the rest of the world so stick at it!!

Good luck, you clearly want to change and you can do it.

Could have written your post OP. My tipping point was that I look horrific in photos. I don't take pictures of me with the DC & I would love to throw anything in my wardrobe on without it being uncomfy or thrumpy.

It's also my 30th next year & ive decided my 30's will be amazing & I'll look amazing to go with it.

Started yesterday so still feeling upbeat at the moment. I would also say things like going to park with kids or running back to the car to get something I'm just a hot slobbery mess. Plus I need to get some healthy eating going on in the house!

Goodluck OP. You've done the hardest bit. Face facts. Now your in control xx

slimming world working for me atm. I was a 16/18, 4 stone overweight and felt shit. none of my clothes fitted, I lived in harem pants and I was a fat mess.

6 months later I am nearly 2 stone down, size 16s are falling off me, and I feel 100% better. I still have 2 St to lose but know I will do it. I have eaten well. I haven't felt deprived. We have takeaway once a week and I enjoy a g and t or 2 a few nights a week. It also fits in with the family and we are all eating better.

You have to want to do it but it definitely works. Especially if you can recognise where your eating habits are wrong.

If you are eating rubbish your starting point should be cutting out some of your sugary snacks. I'm thinking sweets/biscuits/crisps and high sugary drinks.

Doing this gradually will make s massive difference and believe me as a size 12 person 5ft 4 you just can't get away with eating it.

My diet is not ideal but I learned that sugar and processed food are evil. Go to the low carb food boards on here and the difference cutting out sugar makes is unbelievable

Morning all, thanks so much for replying. Smile

I have zero will power, so I just need to get tough! I'm trying to come at it from a place of acceptance as against hating how I look...but failing!

I've just started my Journey properly really, lost 4.6lbs last week though! (whoop!)

I've been obese my entire life and been on a diet since I was 6 years old (my Mum put me on SlimFast.. it was the 90's... yeah.)

My turning point came when my DP proposed and I realised I was dreading a wedding because i didn't want people looking at me Blush

What's working for me is keeping track of everything I eat and staying within a budget. It makes you accountable :)

IT took a lot for me to reach a tipping point...

Going to the theatre and not being able to sit properly in the seat because I was too big didn't do it.
Not being able to do up the seatbelt on a flight didn't do it (I just bought an extender to take on flights with me).
Not being able to walk around Parc Guell in Barcellona without getting completely out of breath didn't do it.

What finally did it was getting horribly swollen legs and ankles when we had the heat wave in July and I had to keep lying down for periods of time.
I turn 50 next year and I thought I just can't carry on into old age like this. So I've been eating a lot less, eating healthily, and slowly working on getting myself fit again. I've lost 12kg so far, and have gone from a morbidly obese BMI of 40 to 35.6. I still have a long way to go, but I'm remembering that feeling on the day of the heatwave and keep saying to myself 'never again'

Last Christmas the children bought me pjs, and they didn't fit, it seriously upset me. I never made an effort, never wore makeup, painted my nails and lived in leggings with tunics. I'm now almost 5st down from 13.7 at 5ft 2 I'm 31. I don't think I've ever been happier than this summer wearing lovely dresses.

For me, thinking ahead, do you really want to be the same size in 5 years time?

Sorry if this sounds a bit brutal OP Flowers

For me it was having to but a size 18. The first time was in 2008 and I joined WW and lost 60lbs in 12 months. Of course I stopped going and the weight gradually crept on and last September after a holiday which I'd had to buy size 18 clothes I joined against and now am 42lbs down and aiming for another 14lbs for Christmas.

I so regret putting it all back on and will not be making the same mkstake this time. The weight loss is much slower now I'm that bit older!

My recommendation would be to break it down into small goals; half a stone, the next stone bracket etc.

Good luck

I lost two stone before summer and have put a stone back on. No one to blame but me using food as an emotional crutch (I have two autistic children). I want to lose about two and a half stone and my birthday is at the end of the year and I'd like to shift it by then. I'm a size 14 and 5'6 but feel uncomfortable. The trouble is I feel revolting so I eat which perpetuates the cycle. Here if you want a buddy.

Definitely agree with small goals, I've gone vegan (after 21 years as a vegetarian). This has helped with my maintenance I'm determined to never buy bigger than a 10. Plus I got rid of all my old clothes. I paint my nails every night too, it distracts me from snacking Smile

Mine is now this morning putting on winter trousers that are feeling the strain and having to put a slightly larger sized jumper over them. Every Mum at school seems to have lost weight whilst I've ballooned.
