How can I lose weight? Have PCOS and have tried everything!

I'm at my wits end with weightloss. I weigh 15st at 5"3 and am very fat but can't seem to lose any weight. I have been on a diet my whole adult life and have never managed it lose anything substantial, and having a baby last year has pushed me from chubby into dowdy fat mum territory.
I desperately want another baby and know it's not happening because I'm too overweight so I am desperately dieting all the time! I have literally tried everything- low carb, slimming world, weight watchers, meal replacement etc etc. I eat healthily and know about nutrition, also keep portion sizes in control.
In desperation I recently started working out with a personal trainer 3 times a week and haven't seen any shift despite low carbing religiously. I've lost 2lbs in a month of this.

Please help! I'm desperate to escape this body Sad

I think this is your problem - I have been on a diet my whole adult life

If you're thinking if it as a diet, that suggests you think you're "depriving" yourself in some way, or not eating "normal" food. You need to turn your thinking around - you're no longer on a diet, you're eating healthily, forever.

What do you typically eat in a day and what do you do with your personal trainer?

Slimming world. Quite a few with pcos at my group one has lost 5 stone and has four kids! It's not a diet though or a quick fix its healthy eating and lots of cooking from scratch.

Sorry didn't see you'd already tried it.

You don't need to go on a diet, you need to change it, permanently. Speak to your GP about weight-loss and improving your nutrition.

You need strict low carb! Strict Atkins low carb, under 20g of carbs a day.

I was you, 65lbs ago. I started low carbing back in February and it's been damn near miraculous for me. Never mind the 65lbs but the PCOS is gone, I have two normal healthy ovaries that responded perfectly to IVF this month.

I am 5 foot 2 inches tall and this time last year weighed 102 kg. I'm currently 60.2 kg.

Get your vitamin D3, iron ferritin and thyroid checked.

Eat a gram of protein for every kilogram of your weight daily, and fill up on salad with plenty of oily dressing.

Eat no refined carbs except on one day of the week, and avoid fruit, juices or smoothies.

Weigh yourself daily but concentrate on the underlying trend, not that day's weight.

You need to see an endocrinologist and get put on metformin if you've honestly eaten healthy and stuck to diets but not lost. That will help with weight loss and a good diet.

I have PCOS, and struggled to lose weight, tried lots of diets and only managed to slowly lose a stone. Now doing slimming world and have lost 4 and a half stone since April. I would recommend trying it again, and only have carbs with one meal.

ALemonyPea metformin does artificially what low carb does naturally. Keep blood sugar under control.

Op I've been there done that, don't waste your time with an endo, they'll throw meds at the problem and tell you it's impossible to lose weight with PCOS Angry

Thanks all for your encouragement. I'll try to carry on low carbing but find it so disheartening after doing it religiously for so long with little losses.

Tried my fitness pal? How many calories do you eat a day? Do you weigh everything?

Popsicle I'm a low carb veteran. Can you share a food diary? I may be able to give you pointers

Stop with the diets and start with the exercise. I've lost 2 stone this year by working my ass off at the gym and making more sensible choices with my food. NO DIETS. if I want a donut I'll have it. and I'll work extra hard at the gym the next time. Trust me, that's all you need. 15 mins a day if you can. It will make your body strong for having another baby too!! Good luck!!! And stop dieting!!!

I agree with not dieting but you won't lose weight just by exercise if you are overeating. I think the advice is that diet vs exercise is about 80/20.

I have PCOS and have tried everything several times. I finally started slimming world again a few months ago and have lost 1.5 stone. It's slow but working, I've just got to keep myself in the right mindset.
