1 stone - 12 weeks challenge

SanityAssassin · 27/08/2016 22:53

I have been much less active than normal recently and have managed to put on half a stone in the last couple of weeks and I can really feel it (I am small - although not so now!)

I am now the heaviest I have ever been except for pregnancy.
losing a stone would be great and I'm giving myself 12 weeks to do it
I was aiming for Nov 14 as the end of my challenge (12 weeks) so not to far off.

will be mostly low carbing (as I know it works for me) plus joining DH in his 5:2 fasting madness :)

I like to weigh daily (I know its frowned upon) but it helps me.

Hi! Can I join you? Sounds like we are in a similar position. I used to have about 3kg I wanted to lose forever (I'm not big either, but I would feel better and my clothes would fit better at that weight. I am in between sizes 10/12, I want to be a comfortable 10. Somehow this 3kg seems to have sllipped to 5-6kg (so nearly a stone) in the recent months, and I realise I have to take control of the situation now because it will only get worse!

I used to always try to lose this weight quickly, but it didn't bring lasting results. As I am not in a hurry, I will now try the slow approach. I will also combine low carbing (not too strict, just cutting out all obvious sugars), bit of fasting, and just trying to eat less. I have also just a couple of days ago downloaded a hypnotic gastric band! 😄 I thought I may as well try that too. The sessions are very relaxing and always send me off to sleep 😊. I think it might be helping a little, but too early to say for sure.

I am also trying to get back to regular exercise (this too has slipped), as I want to improve my fitness and bodyshape as well as lose weight.

Would you like to do a weekly weigh in for a bit of accountability?

Hi, similar situation here although I have 10 KG to lose so a bit more than you. Sanity, on the days that you are not doing 5:2, how many calories will you consume?

I'll join. I posted on here regularly in 2014 about achievements and I've allowed stress/unhappiness to trigger binges over the last year.

Cleaned out and defrosted the fridge freezer yesterday, so ready to go.

My Fitness Pal for me, I have to track!

Can I join in? I have a lot more than 1 stone to loose (nearer 4) but that'd be a great start.

I'll also be low carbing (although not properly this week as off to legoland for a couple of days!) DH bought me a fitbit for my birthday yesterday so aiming for 10000 steps a day and get back to my running and zumba class.

I'm also going to do dry September, gin munchies are my big downfall!

can I join? I have about a stone to lose, I've tried low carbing and find it works but would greatly benefit from some group support. I've been putting off weighing myself but Im just getting slowly bigger and moving less and less.I don't think I could do 5:2, but can reduce carbs and do more exercise.

Great to have a few of us here!

I am going to weigh myself tomorrow morning for a starting weight, and then every Monday morning till 14th November.

Would anybody like to join me for Monday morning weigh-ins? It would be motivating to follow others' weight loss journey in numbers (because we are all going to have losses!) 😃

I'm in too! I downloaded an app today to start my weight loss motivation having bought new scales yesterday. I've got 16 pounds to lose to get back to my pre wedding weight and we are off on holiday in November so the aim is by then.

MFP; 5:2; very gradual re-entry to exercise. Oh, and moaning about how much my CFS etc is making it a miserable life to lose weight in Grin

Monday weigh ins, maybe Tues morning ass that is my old habit Smile

Ourblanche how many calories do you do on your non fasting days? And what do you eat on your fasting days? Was thinking bout trying 5:2 but I assume it would be best to fast on a non exercise day?

I'll join. I've put on half a stone over the hols to add on to the stone I already had to lose. I could do with some motivation and accountability. I go away in 6 weeks so to lose half a stone by then would be great.

Going to 5:2 and use MFP for tracking and get back to the gym when the kids are back at school. Will weigh in tomorrow.

Can I join too? Monday morning weigh-ins are good for me too.

Used to be slim and never had to think about what I ate. Since having children though I've never managed to lose all the 'baby' weight. My youngest is now nearly 3 Blush
Ideally I'd like to lose a stone and a half, but a stone would be a very good start.

Oh! OK... strap yourself in Smile

I lost 3 stone over 2 years, 5:2 ing as and when I could. CFS makes it a bit difficult. Stress and leaving teaching means I have re-gained 1 stone in 2 years - not too bad I suppose. So I am looking back at my MFP diary to see how I did it!

I do Johnsons Up Day Down Day Diet - I started before Michael Mosely's programme and the renaming, so I use Up Days Medium Days and Down Days

Up Days I never really set out to do anything. Just eat whatever my DD made me want... but I found that I started avoiding sweet things and starchy carbs without really thinking about it. That took about 2 or 3 months to kick in. MFP tells me that my mid week UDs I ate about 1500kcals, more at the weekend, when we chose to make more complicated meals, drink wine, have pudding etc. Though Sunday lunch and pudding never really hit huge numbers.

DDs I started at 800kcals. Suffered the headaches for about 2 weeks and suddenly, after about 2 months, felt different. Took me ages to realise I had grown a Full Button... I got down to about 300kcals a day, the occasional full fasting day. Days stretched to about 40 hours every now and then.

MDs were either U or D Days that went wrong. I didn't get angry/disappointed, I just relabelled the day and carried on with whatever the next day was.

After 6 months it felt great. I was never hungry, ate whatever I wanted within the calorie limits I set for the DDs. I never restricted UDs but found that I naturally started to eat very healthily. I continued to bake cakes, make puddings, eat a wide and varied range of foods. The only thing I did was eat 500kcal a day, twice a week, three times if DH was working away.

Mon; Weds = DD
Fri = DD or MD if he was home
Tues; Thurs; Sat; Sun = UDs

Exercise was done on the morning of an UD, before breakfast if I could manage it. I have a sport/exercise science degree so did a lot of reading in the local Uni library on this... the original 5:2 authors recommendations are very sensible and give good results.

I was almost at Maintenance - 1 DD per week - when I lost the plot, got very stressed and, eventually, left teaching. I wasn't in any fit state to continue, but, as I said, it has taken 2 years to put on 1 stone, so I didn't lose all of the habits immediately.

The great motivators were losing all my back fat in within a couple of months - that made an enormous difference to my posture and the clothes I wore Smile

My knees stopped complaining. That meant I could do the exercises my CFS restricted me to, so I was more active, safely.

My face, chins, all got smaller, my boobs didn't Sad but the loss of back fat meant I looked much, much better.

But I know a few people who never got into it. For them the headaches were monstrous and they loath the diet as much as I loved it. Happily you will know within the first week if this will be you. I think everyone gets headaches initially, I did and expect to again, but if they are too bad, just stop and choose another diet.

The DDs mean that you end up reducing your kcal intake so that over a week you lose 1 -2 lbs (though it can be far faster initially). So, regardless of the Monster Shouters, you aren't starving yourself, there is no Starvation Mode, and the average weight loss is very sustainable and falls within the NHS safe limits.

The reason I chose it was I can't be bothered counting calories, eating special foods. So I chose 3 or 4

I'm in :)

Starting from tomorrow I'll be back on the healthy bandwagon. Aim isn't really to lose weight but to tone up and lose a few inches.

Keen for a Monday report back session

Oh, and I'd urge everyone to take a full length photo in underwear / shorts and sports bra front on and side on. Then take weekly photos in the same position, really helps to see the progress even if the scales don't look different

Great so many of us (or not iyswim) !! - I'm not really "starting" until Tuesday but felt I needed to write down to make myself accountable to myself (if that makes sense!) being sensible though til then.

Queen good idea with the photos - I'd have to make sure I hid them though as I'd die if anyone else saw them!

1100 - 1200 cals I can usually lose slowly on - I am small so a stone makes a big difference to me. I usually run quite a bit too but haven't lately (which probably explains some of the recent gain!) but can get back out regularly once kids back to school.

Monday am weigh ins good for me but may not be able to post results til evening.

yes great I definitely will weigh in Monday am
Manu - that's amazing well done!
Lapinlapin - used to be slim too, size 8 (now Ive hit perimenopause everything has slowed down). I exercise a fair amount but it doesn't seem to do much. My maximum pregnancy weight was 9 stone 7, I dread to think what it is now - oh will find out tomorrow I suppose

Please can someone explain what CFS and MFP are?

CFS: Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, used to be Yuppy Flu, has been ME but I am not up for spelling that one Smile Debilitating condition that comes on a sliding scale from bed ridden to almost managing a normal life, but tiring easily and needing a few days in bed to recuperate if you overdo it.

thissismyusername · 28/08/2016 13:13

oh thank you Blanche, sorry to hear you have that, I know it as ME. That makes all your exercising even more of an achievement. I will have a look at the fitness tracker, when we go back to school I am much better at having regular eating/exercise plans with a routine.

Ach! I've had it for 30 odd years. Bed ridden for 2 - 3 years; aerobics instructor for 10, so for me it has been very up and down. The teaching had the worst effect I think... the last 5 years reduced me to a gibbering wreck, living on my nerves and handfuls of cake Smile

1st WEIGH-IN

Today: 61.4kg (9st 9.4lbs)
Target: 55kg (8st 9.3lbs)

So, looks like I have pretty much exactly that stone to lose! I'm excited to get going and determined to get there. 1st in 12 weeks should be perfectly doable! 😃

Morning. I'd love to do this too please. I lost 5 stone after DD but this summer has seen 5 pounds creep back on along with some bad habits and a lack of exercise

Will be doing mfp and will weigh in a bit
