How can I get rid of wobbly thighs?

lavenderbongo · 16/07/2016 12:29

I'm a size 14/16 on top and 18 from the waist down. So not slim but I'm quite happy with my body from the waste up. My thighs however are big and wobbly and I can't seem to shift weight from this area.

I jog every morning for approximately ten minutes during my 30 minute dog walk. Watch what I eat and do yoga - but my thighs don't slim down. Any tips on how to get rid of the wobble?

Why Juice Plus, Bongo?
What's the magic ingredient in there for big thighs?

I'm 18/20 size and have the same problem. I started a spinning class a few weeks ago and already I feel my bum is slightly firmer and thighs a bit as well. Only once a week so far and swim 1/2 times a week too. I think spinning is the way to go - and I haven't killed myself doing it yet either.
No idea how juice plus could firm up thighs?! I'm intrigued Hmm

Bernie, MLMs such as Juice Plus and Aloe are not really popular on Mumsnet.

It possibly sounded like you were about to pounce with some selling spiel for a fad diet when the OP was asking for some practical advice. I am bigger than the OP so I thought my experience so far with spinning was something to consider.

Weights - they speed up your metabolism, get rid of fat and slim you down. 50/50 cardio to weights. They will not bulk you up as everyone fears. I do 25 minutes weights three days a week on top of cardio in the gym and I am in no way muscular but have slight defintion. If you are not a member of a gym you can buy sets easily and you tube/Google exercises. To start I would recommend a set to include 2 x 3kg, 2 x 5kg, 2 x 7kg or higher. The usual light pink hand weights sold to women are not effective. Do it 3 days a week for 6 weeks and you will see a big difference. Good luck!

I second weight training. Seriously good for improving your physique and helps ward off bone loss. Try it.

I don't know if it's possible to alter fat:muscle ratio of specific body parts through anything apart from surgery.

You can increase the muscle in your legs through exercise and decrease the fat throughout your body through diet/exercise, but I guess you knew that.

10 mins jogging a day, though infinitely better than nothing, isn't very much. Could you increase that to 12 this week and 15 next? Your body acclimates to what you demand of it so any (healthy) weight loss/muscle gain will plateau eventually - it's good to mix things up every now and then.

Weight training is brilliant in a number of ways - Henry Rollins wrote an article about it that's worth a read - but take claims that you won't put size on with a pinch of salt. I don't think anyone looking at me would notice, and I'm certainly not especially muscular, but a few weeks after I started lifting I found I'd gone up a size and had to buy bigger work shirts. I also grew out of a much-loved necklace.

Totally worth it though. When you lift weights, the numbers don't lie. You can't kid yourself that you've done well if you haven't. But when you do see that you can now press double what you could when you started, that's a good feeling Smile

To add to one of YouSay's points, treat any fitness product marketed exclusively at women with scepticism. Triple scepticism if it's pink. I was looking for recovery shakes not so long ago and came across that was especially for women and had "fewer calories".... Turned out it was exactly the same as that brand's men's product, they just recommended smaller servings Angry

Berni NHS state that safe weight loss is 1 - 2 lb a week, and you seem to be going at double that. Hope all is well.

Finally... If you ever watch sport in slow motion on TV, you will see that even the thighs of professional athletes wobble. To wobble is human.

Berni1426, take your own advice. If you can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all instead of insulting pps who quite rightly challenge you on juice plus. MLMs are not liked on MN as they are scams with brainwashed "distributors" who alienate their real friends so move onto anyone that will listen. As soon as you come off your starvation juice diet you will blow up like the hindenberg, unlike the posters on this thread who will lose weight healthily at a steady pace through a sensible diet and exercise.
