Need to Lose Half a Stone but Finding it Impossible to get into "The Zone" !!

BaconAndAvocado · 12/07/2016 21:57

Help!

Half a stone has crept on since christmas and my will power is non-existent.

I know what I need to do but just can't seem to motivate myself!

Any ideas?

I'm 5'5" and I weigh 9st 10lb, the heaviest I've ever been.

I've lost weight in the past by cutting down and doing lots of walking so I can do it!

I'm a classic pear shape but the weight is going straight onto my stomach, it's getting uncomfortably big Blush

Do you have an event or anything planned where you can aim to fit into a particular item of clothing or be at a goal weight by then?

No solutions OP but if you need some company I'll join you. DS2 is 7 months old, I was 11.5 stone st Christmas, managed to drop to 9 stone 12lbs fairly quickly but dropping the last half stone to get back to my 'normal' weight is proving really hard. I promised myself when I was under 9 stone 8lbs that I'd treat myself to new jeans (all the last ones are about 5 years old and have been in and out of the wardrobe through 3 pregnancies and BF two babies) but I seem to shift a couple of lbs then give up and roll out the cake!

Bacon, would it help you to use visualisation?
Perhaps you have a special event coming up, and you could motivate yourself to keep to your weight loss regime by visualising yourself at the event, feeling and looking good in the outfit you want to wear.
I think your weight is good for your height, but you know yourself if you feel you need to drop a few pounds; it can come off more easily for people wanting to lose a greater amount, though.

We have a holiday booked the last week of August but I'm not sure I could lost half a stone in 5 weeks? Maybe I could?!

Fenella having a weight loss buddy sounds great! I know exactly what you mean re the jeans situation! There's only one pair of my jeans I can wear at the moment and I have ALOT of jeans!

pippin yes! I'm a firm believer in all things psychological, will try and use that idea.

I think 5 weeks is do-able for me but I'm breastfeeding so if I can keep a lid on the urge to consume any good in a 10 metre radius it does drop off fairly quickly. I think we could make a good dent in 5 weeks at least! Where are you going on hols?

I stuck to edamame salad and fish for lunch and trying to suppress my sugar cravings with watermelon but I'm going out for dinner tonight and won't be able to help being naughty!

Im trying for a stone in 5 weeks - Lost 3 pounds this week. All Ive done is:

  • Meal plan - know day by day what Im having day by day.
  • Cut out bread - no sandwiches replaced with j pot's lots of salads, or today for lunch Ive had sushi, yoghurt and fruit.
*Cutting down on carbs in the evening and piling on more vegs
*Kale - Ive got a huge bag of this in my fridge and love it...I steam or boil it with a little water, it seems to take ages to chew!!!
*No alcohol in the week only Fri or Sat night
*1 exercise class per week (clubbercise or zumba) all I can manage due to child care or the weeks I cant get to Ive been doing some arm exercises and squats with my kettlebell

Your approach makes a lot,of sense 1million

Shall we have a weigh in on a Friday mornings? before the big weekend binge

Maybe this is all the motivation I need Smile

Oh dear! Amazing meal out last night, several drinks and a very naughty chocolate pudding, then an extremely short night with a teething baby. I'm feeling sooooo unmotivated today. Send me strong thoughts about not powering my way through the day by raiding the toddler's treat drawer please Confused

Got off to a good start today. Bowl of porridge for breakfast, no sugar. Am going to try to avoid refined sugar - think that's a good proportion of my problem.

Oh fenella you are so strong to even be considering trying to lose weight with a teething baby in tow! I remember those days well. Well done you Halo

Porridge eh Maggie ? Very worthy, I had toast with raspberry jam.......only one slice though!

Sounds like a good breakfast Maggie - energy food to power you through!

Bacon I'd lost all the baby weight plus more at this point with DS1 and I'm not feeling too forgiving with myself at the moment - am scared this will become the 'new normal' if I'm not careful.

How's your day going?

Report
BaconAndAvocado · 14/07/2016 16:19

fenella weellll, I was doing really until after the school run (my definite weakest point of the day).

I've just scoffed 2 chocolate digestives and a slice of burger cheese (that classic combination!)

The DCs have friends round and will be having sausages and chips. I'm going to have an Aldi chicken and mango salad and then just a yoghurt till I go to bed........... Hmm

Will definitely be doing the weigh in tomorrow morning: post wee and naked - every little bit helps Grin

Is everyone joining me for the Week 1 Weigh-In?

fenella I can remember after DD ( my hire DC) throwing all the clothes I couldn't fit into in a big heap (it was my whole wardrobe) when she was 6 months old and getting in a right state.

For me, having to buy a size up in jeans was my low point. I hasten to add that without this new Highly Successful Mumsnet Intervention that I would be heading back to the dark side again as I'm now the heaviest I've ever been.

I weighed myself on Monday to discover I'm the heaviest I've ever been too. Including when I was heavily pregnant Blush

Can I join too, please Bacon?

I was 10st1 when I weighed on Monday, I'm 5'4" and my comfortable weight is anything between 8st12-9st3. Would love to get back there. Have been restrained with eating crap all week.

Just polished off a big slice of watermelon for pud and a glass of wine so bring on the weigh in tomorrow!!

Hello Mrs we all sound quite similar, stats-wise, I think part of the problem is I'm not 'overweight', I'm back in a healthy BMI, but the top end and I think it can make me a bit too complacent (when I'm not being upset about my lack of willpower)

Report
MrsDesperado · 14/07/2016 22:01

Hello Fenella yes you're right about being complacent in the healthy BMI range. I've just had a shock though - my waist is now 32" which is definitely not healthy. It's time for some action now - I don't want this to me the new me. i remember the days when my waist was 26" (and I was upset I couldn't get it to 24")

BaconAndAvocado · 14/07/2016 22:13

Welcome Mrs ! The more the merrier!

You've hit the nail on the head fenella about getting complacent. I know full well that if I don't do something now I will be overweight very soon.

Just had a not very healthy yoghurt, better than biscuits I guess! It was very gorgeous too.

Not sure if I've lost anything this week, if I have I'll be very pleased indeed as I haven't been all that careful.

The suspense..........!

Look forward to hearing everyone else's results Smile

I've lost 2lbs! Down to 9st 10lbs. That's where the breastfeeding comes in useful I think.

Out for dinner again tonight and then will struggle to be good over the weekend, I need to not put it all back on!

Well done on your 2lb loss Fenella!

I weighed in this morning at 9st 13 and 3/4 So that's just a smidgen over 1lb lost since Monday which I'm happy with! Cutting out some of the crap seems to have paid off. Its also so good to be under 10 stone again - I'm vowing to never go back there.

Got to try and stay away from the biscuit cupboard today whilst I'm at home with the kids. I find it so much easier to be disciplined at work.

Well done you two!! That's brilliant Smile

I've lost 1 lb which is a good start!

(all being well with their school reports) I'm taking the DCs out for dinner tonight but at least it's on a Friday!

It's now allowing myself to relax but not completely go mad over the weekend!,

Oh well done guys! Mrs back in the 9-zone - definitely a psychological barrier broken! I went to the shops sans kids today so took the opportunity to try on some jeans. Have bought a pair which I can juuuuuuust get into. Hoping another few lbs over the next few weeks will make me able to bend over in them maybe! I'm not normally one for dieting into clothes but I've decided to tempt fate with this one Wink
