Does losing weight make you feel run down?

I have noticed that when I reduce my food intake and lose weight I seem to get more colds and feel generally not that great. I think I work better on lots of food? Eat very healthily normally and am not overweight, just high end of normal. Have small frame so look better slimmer. Anyone else find this happens?

I often feel terrible just after I cut out sugar and caffeine but it passes. If I'm eating properly (lots of veg and lean protein) I normally feel much better than when I'm eating a lot of junk food, although again I sometimes have a few days of feeling starving all the time until my appetite resets.

Do you think you're cutting a bit too much when you diet?

Sounds as though your weight-reducing diet might not be healthy.
You should be feeling better, not worse!

Yes. Been doing Slimming World and have never felt so ill in my life. Constant diarrhea and have no energy. I don't know how much more I can take.

You're obviously not getting the nutrition you need. Try exercise rather than food reduction.

I was going to suggest you take extra vitamins, but actually what weight loss plan are you following? Are you getting enough of the right foods. If you are just the high end of normal could you not just reduce your portion sizes and move more? (Advice I could do with following myself Blush)

Sorry just read you are doing slimming world. Maybe it's a coincidence? Maybe it's your body getting used to new diet?

Maybe you've not adjusted to having all the extra fibre, if you didn't previously have much in the way of fruit and veg, wholegrain cereals and rice, etc.
Perhaps you should see GP, if only to rule out dietary changes as a cause of diarrhoea.

I have a very active lifestyle and not a lot of time to rest or sit down so it may be that I do need more food. I'm only losing 1/2lb a week. I'm pretty clued up on what is healthy pippin so I do know I am eating a healthy diet-
Fruit and full fat Greek yoghurt for breakfast with ground flax seeds
Vegetable omlette for lunch with 1 square of dark chocolate
Dinner: lots of veg with something like brown rice and sausage and bean stew with grated cheese, or steak, veg and a couple of new potatoes. Sometimes 2 squares dark choc to follow.
Snacks are raspberries, a slice of cheese or some nuts.
I may just need more food!!

That is 1 or 2 lb rather than half...

If you're active and your diet is healthy, and you aren't overweight, than I would listen to your body. It knows where it wants to be.

Your diet sounds healthy and delicious, too.
Half a pound a week is still a loss, especially for someone like you, who doesn't have much to lose.

Oh, I thought it was half.
Well, one or two a week is even better.

Thanks, I'm happy with the weight loss, just not feeling tired. I want to get back to my pre baby weight but it may just be unrealistic with small children and life! With summer hols coming up may just have to admit defeat and decide it's better to have more energy than be my ideal weight. Thanks for ideas all.

This happens to me too (more irritability/tiredness than colds though). I am trying to have some higher calorie/carb days to see if that helps (in practice , it's by allowing myself to eat more on some evenings out... Still healthy choices though).seems to help to a degree
Form of calorie 'zig zag' :)

Also, it looks like you only have your carbs at night.perhaps experiment with a carbier breakfast/lunch and less carbs at night to see how it affects your energy levels: just a thought as what works for one person may not work for another

Yes this happens to me! I had a cold for most of this winter and I couldn't shift it until I ate more. I got healthy again and went back to weight loss.

Now I am at my target weight I can just maintain which is excellent. I now have so much energy that I have taken up running 10k again!

I don't have any answers. I lost weight eating very healthy food but still made me feel run down. Maybe increase you calories a small bit and see if you can have less weight loss but with more energy?
